General 4x4 squealing rear brakes

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm an English bloke living in The French Alps. I've got a 'Sweet Candy Beige' 2017 Panda Cross TwinAir.

I bought the car in May 2019. The dealer told me that the brakes had just been done and the squeal would soon disappear. 3000km later it has got worse. So I did some research. I believe in France the warranty is just 2 years so I plan to do the work myself.

  • This video alerted me to the design fault:

  • I asked the guy for the part number, it is 52025558

  • This is now discontinued. It is replaced by 2 numbers 52077564 for the damper and 77365755 the screw
So to do both rear calipers you need to order:
2 x 52077564
and
2 x 77365755

You can order the parts here:
https://www.online-teile.com/fiat-ersatzteile/52077564_Damper.html
https://www.online-teile.com/fiat-ersatzteile/77365755_Screw.html

I've only just ordered the parts, so I'll post some photos etc.later.
The parts seem expensive for what they are, but if it fixes the problem I'll be happy.

Thanks for this. After a relatively noise-free summer, mine has recently started squealing like a stuck pig again. Never heard a peep from it in reverse (which is what the video refers to), but on the move, especially at speed, it's horrendous at times, esp. when the brakes have warmed up. Very irritating. And those parts are stupidly expensive.

That video, though. Zzzzzzzzzzz...

@gar074 - how worn are your rear brakes? The pads have a metal 'tag' on them that, once the pads have worn close to their limit, is designed to make contact with the disc to make a really annoying squeal, to alert you to the need to replace them.

If you look at the parts in this photo, (click to zoom in) you can see the metal tag at the bottom left corner of the left pad in the photo https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/pagid-brake-pad-101581108

OK - it's all fixed. I had to buy the parts because my car is out of warranty, but it honestly feels like a different car now. The squeal has 100% gone:

Good to hear (or, maybe not to hear?). My 2018 4x4 had this mod when I bought it new, so either it is now done in the factory, or the dealer did it before I collected it (with just 4 miles on the clock)

Got some new rear pads, to (hopefully) cure the brake squeal. Half-price (£22.75) in Eurocarparts' Halloween sale. Cheap as chips (but hopefully not as squishy).

I've never experienced this brake squeal phenomena. But would be interested to know what the springs look like on the Eurocar parts pads? Recently did rear discs and pads with OEM parts from shop on this site, very good quality including pre-coated lube on back of outside pad, thread lock on new calliper bolts and (significant) extra curly spring to, I think, withdraw pad from disc. This extra bit was on the edge of the replacement spring (I'll try to post picture) since as you can tell it's hard to describe.

Can anyone advise where i can buy these parts in the UK? links provided do not ship to uk, Google search showed up either hideously overpriced dampers or out of stock, and i cant find the screws anywhere.
