Seat belt user person indicator thingy...

Sorry, didn't know what else to call it...

I'm referring to the little people shown on the dash display.

Front passenger shows as someone using the seat even though there isn't and the belt is unplugged, I'm sure it wasn't like that originally; has it broken?

The bleepers isn't going off so clearly the weight sensor is not effected, but the person is 'blacked out' so something is likely triggered (unless it's been like that all along!)

Have you checked the handbook properly?

My Mum thought the same with hers 18 months ago & got the dealer to look at it. I forget the detail (it's not my car), but the graphic was (from memory) relating to the other front seat (not what it looks like). Does it light up which ever seat is in use, and the buckled up graphic come on/off correctly as each seatbelt is used? I suspect it's how it's meant to be if you check and try each seat. Sorry if this is a little vague - it was 18 months ago & I didn't entirely understand the graphic at the time (neither did the service dept for about an hour!).

If the person is blacked out it means the seatbelt is buckled - are you sure it's not telling you that you're in the driver's seat with the seatbelt on? I suspect the lh/rh people may be confusing for rhd....

If the seat is empty, cliping and unclipping passenger seat does nothing, if the seat is occupied, then it comes alive. Try it.

Re: Seat belt user person indicator thingy...

Problem is that it is alive....it shows someone in the seat even if there is not.
It does not bleep the audible weight alarm si I would also guess it is the clip

I'm still a little confused with your original post - you said the person is blacked out? As I said above, blacked out means correctly buckled in. I'm assuming you made a mistake in your original post & mean the person is white (not blacked out)?

If the icons aren't appearing per the handbook then I guess it could be the clip - good luck with getting it fixed if so.

Re: Seat belt user person indicator thingy...

No mistake...

It is blacked out as though correctly buckled in...

But no one is in the seat and the belt is not connected.

Doesn't this just go to show how ridiculously complicated cars are becoming? It's actually quite easy to see whether or not there's someone sitting in a particular seat, and whether or not they have their belt done up without the "help" of a load of electrical jiggery pokery.

I get your point, however I do think the seatbelt indicators are quite useful.

Certainly the front seats are no real issue, but I think they are useful if you have got kids in the back. Obviously child car seats nowadays are quite bulky, meaning access to the buckle is somewhat restricted.

But it's not out of the question that a little one could un-do their seat belt when you're driving along, and you might only know about it when the alarm goes off.

So in that respect I think they are a good idea.

I agree, I don't used the little picture thingies (totally confusing) but I've had occasions where stern words to the Grand kids were in order when they've been playing around with the seat belts. The audible warning is an excellent feature in in my opinion.

Re: Seat belt user person indicator thingy...

I agree the little icons are very confusing (even reading the handbook for the umpteenth time it makes little sense). I suspect they only go white when there's someone in a seat who hasn't buckled up, but clearly in this case the op has checked & confirmed with the dealer that there's a fault. We thought there was a fault (as did our dealer), but after a couple of hours it was confirmed all was correct but confusing as hell (think they rang Fiat in the end!). Tbh if the alarm works correctly on each seat (if someone's there but not buckled), I'd completely ignore the little people. Then again I'd ignore the gear shift indicator, the stop/start, the Eco button, etc etc, too!

Will be interested to hear what the fault is with this particular case & if there's a clip sensor at fault.

Re: Seat belt user person indicator thingy...

He says its the clip sensor, so lets see when he replaces the clip.

I think a big part of the confusion with these icons is that the colours seem to be 'back to front' IMO.

When the seat is empty it shows as white / cream... but when the seat and belt are used it returns to the background colour of the display (which makes it appear as original / empty)

Would have been far better as background colour = unused... fill up white when used.

But what do I know!
