Well kind of.

The other half was bimbling about in her TA 4X4 on Sunday when the CBC activated its self. Only problem is, there was no danger!

I was not in the car at the time, so I quizzed her as to exactly happened.

She pulled up behind a car and trailer at traffic lights. No problem. Then when the lights go green, the car and trailer pulls away and she duly follows suit. It's at this point that the CBC activates itself.

Am I to conclude that the CBC did not see the low trailer? and then when the trailer suddenly appeared between her and the car in front, the system activated believing that an accident was imminent?

We're happy that the CBC works, but we will be paying attention to low trailers in future.

Has any one else had any problems or need for the CBC to activate it self?

I'll probably regret saying so, but I'd be very reluctant to let any system apply the brakes on my car without my knowledge.

My wife tested the city brake control in our 500L today - it was stopped because of the barrier on the entry to a car park. She was going forward as the barrier was raising, and the city brake control must have read the barrier as an obstruction. Better to test it like this, rather than with the back of a car in traffic! :)

My car has CBC but it has yet to activate in the 700 miles since I've had the car. I am lead to believe however that there are potentially quite a few instances when the system may 'fire' unexpectedly, in particular pulling onto a roundabout where vehicles pass close to the front of the vehicle. Whilst I am keen to understand if mine works, I don't need it going off when I least need it to....

Glad I didn't tick that option box I think!

Ditto, though I've given myself (and anyone behind  ) a fright once
or twice when wearing my widest-soled shoes by inadvertently touching
the brake when operating the clutch :bang:

Memo to self: drive in narrower footwear

Hi
Very new to this but I've had a similar problem with my new 500x. It's 7 weeks old and has been in the garage 4 weeks!
The latest is that my city break kicked in automatically at normal driving speed and brought us to a complete stop. Obviously I was terrified and took it straight in.
The garage can't replicate the fault and Fiat are saying theres nothing they can do.
Has anyone had these sorts of issues resolved as currently I'm scared to get back in it!!
Thanks

I have to say that the idea of a car automatically bringing itself to a halt is something I'd be very reluctant to contemplate. Presumably you can disable the function - or would that fail "safe" and prevent the car from moving at all?

It's just another thing to go wrong. Who's going to want to own these cars when they're out of warranty, and the sensors begin to fail (as they inevitably will)? It's one thing when your parking sensors get crapped up by road dirt etc and don't beep reliably when you're trying to park. It's quite another when your wretched car decides to do an emergency stop for no reason in the outside lane of the M6.

But Mr (our should that be Herr?) Euro Ncap has decided that cars now must have such electronic gubbins in order to get the coveted 5*, so inevitably the manufacturers will fit them.

Hi
It sounds a bit off putting. I bought a ex demo Ford with all the bits that just look OK, it hadn't been fitted with ACS. I had a look in the Ford hand book and found that this system can be turned off but automatically turns on again when the engine is restarted. The book recommends turning the system off for off-road driving and when going into a car wash. It only works below approximately19mph (30Km), and doesn't stop the car completely (you must depress the brake pedal to obtain full braking force). The system will not react to bicycles, motorcycles, people or animals. There is a whole page of warnings regarding this system in the handbook, I would have thought that the Fiat handbook would have similar information.

It looks to me as if you put a bit of Gaffer tape over the sensor on the window screen this would make the system inoperative, but you would be doing this at your own risk.

I haven't seen anything on the Ford Forum about the system triggering inappropriately, I imagine that if this happened it could cause problems for anyone following the car (me without the system

My Focus has city braking and it has kicked in a couple of times and brought the car to a violent complete stop quicker than I could!

It's kicked in a couple of times when approaching a car park barrier because it thought I wasn't going to stop - I was going fairly quickly, and another when it thought I was going to drive into a hedge.

I read on What cars long term test of a VW Golf they had problems with it picking up curbs and thinking it was going to hit the car in front often, I haven't had this on the Focus.

I would be worried though if it started doing this out on the road with nothing ahead.

Yes it does - pages 83-87 of the handbook downloadable from this website.

My Mum's Panda 4x4 has CBC and has not shown any misjudgements in the last 2 and a bit years. It's never triggered for anything, so I'd be happy it's set up well. It cost £250 which would be less than a repaint of the front bumper if you lost concentration for a second in traffic. (y)

Ours has kicked in once in 2.5 years, when a truck crossed lanes coming onto a roundabout and cut me up.... I had clocked it and was reacting anyway, but not sure my recently driving son would have if he was driving. For me = result

It still concerns me a bit because the car behind almost certainly wouldn't be fitted with it.....

Agreed, sounds more dangerous. Especially in motorway jams, a very good chance of the car behind piling into the back of you.

Mine also came with City Brake Control, but I did not order it. Happily, it can be turned off in the settings menu :)
