My panda is 1 year old next month and it's done around 3500mikes. I rung Fiat Maidstone and they wanted £190 for a small service.

My question is should I bothered getting it done or leave it to next uear when it has done 6k

It's a 1.2 lounge.

Thanks for any advice

Hi Vallumlj,

The service schedule in the manual states that if you do less than 6,000 miles a year, the oil and oil filter should (or must) be changed every 12 months. I cannot remember the specific wording but your car would defo fall under the category.

My personal opinion is that it is a good idea to service your car annually, especially when you are doing such low mileage.

However I would ring your dealer and tell them to give you a proper price for an oil/filter change;). The consumables themselves are about £40 and labour even at a main dealer can't reasonably be more than £70 for an oil and filter change. So that's £110. You see where I am going here!

The other option is to use genuine Fiat parts and go to a good VAT registered independent garage. A perfectly good option.

However, as your car is still in warranty then IMO it is better to keep it within the dealer network for the first couple years in case you need to make a claim. Loyalty shmoyalty and all that:)

hi,

a FIAT/ Alfa indy will do the job properly ,
with Genuine FIAT parts for @ £100 (could be as low as £80)

Yes I think we paid £100 (at Perrys Aylesbury) for an oil & filter change at one year (6k) on Mum's 4x4. They wanted much more but were told in no uncertain terms oil & filter only to keep the warranty intact. (y)

It's true you can probably save £20 by going independent but don't dismiss the goodwill factor. Fiat refunded £250 for a new wiper motor on my mk1 Punto 18 months out of warranty as a goodwill gesture - they wanted copies of the dealer servicing invoices before considering it though - this doesn't seem unreasonable as I was playing the loyalty card.

Personally I'd dealer service it for 2 years to keep the 3rd year warranty & plenty of goodwill in place. Most people would also pay a little more for a 3 year old car with dealer history too if you are planning to sell it, so not really worth going independent yet IMHO.
