epic mpg

After a 52 mile trip across Devon and Cornwall in my 1.2 lounge, I was amazed to see this readout on the trip computer. I filled up about half a mile from home and had reset the trip. It was pretty hot and I had the ac on some of the time. I was cruising about 50-60 on a roads with about 5 miles of country lanes near my destination. Who needs a diesel? (or a twinair ) *ducks*

Apologies to those who can't rotate their monitor or head 90 degrees. My phone didn't tell the website the photo was portrait! :bang:

Indeed. My last two fuel ups I managed exactly 63 mpg with round 20% city driving. That is calculated value. Trip computer showed 69 mpg. I always get 5-6 mpg difference for reasons unknown to me.:shrug:

You're right. Brim to brim calcs will show a few mpg lower for me to. Normally about 2 or 3.

Nice work .

Keep refining your ecodriving technique and it won't be long before you'll be seeing trip figures into the '70's.

The 1.2, if driven for all out economy, will show most petrol cars a clean pair of heels. I've averaged 61mpg over about 32,000 miles in a 500 with the same engine .

I agree that the 1.2 is excellent for petrol economy, it rewards 'normal'
driving much more easily than the Twinair, I'm averaging mid-fifties and
have managed 60+ by trying hard to keep the revs below 3000...

But I wouldn't trade the two-cylinder, as I do like its motorbike sound
and punchy acceleration on the odd occasion, as a special treat :devil:

Its vibration around 1900rpm is also strangely endearing

But to get these figures do you people ever overtake or keep pace with normal traffic on motorways? I only ask because I have a colleague who is happy to drive slowly in all situations, and never seems to accelerate, or drop down a gear for hills - poor engine. I think she gets goodish economy in her horrible 1.2 Polo, @50, but you need to be in a transcendental state of total calm to be a happy passenger.

Reminds me of a womanfriend who many years ago had a Citroen 2CV,
in which she slowed down excessively for all bends and corners

Just didn't appreciate its need for energy conservation, which demands total
disregard of the alarming roll angles, the narrow tyres actually gripped well!

The Panda Trekking can be cornered quite fast (for a tall car) and doesn't
roll too much. The suspension's very well set up, IMHO

I agree. I drove one and it was fantastic, but since it was me driving I have no idea what the fuel consumption was like. I think we need to remember that driving must be fun. Without the fun what's the point, because it isn't just a way of getting about?

And as for 2cvs, well I had one, and two (far better) Dyanes. Went flat out everywhere, always. Grip grip grip, lean lean lean ... That was fun!
