In a conference my buddy attended yesterday, Fiat have confirmed for production the Panda Cross.
Also the 500X is confirmed too.

There was more news too, but I don't know the details yet.

Both should be here by end of 2014.

Exciting! Surprised at a new Cross as the latest 4x4 is so competent so wonder what they have in store for it?

I found this pic of a Panda 4x4 Cross but don't know how legit it is...

Hmmm not sure about that front styling it that plastic growth on the roof....

That picture may be close to the production model?

I heard it is going to be "chunkier" than the climbing model that we have now.
Which is exactly how it was with the previous model.

What's the point to this though? The current 4x4 is brilliant enough. The old cross had the advantage of the diesel engine and more hardcore off roading abilities than the 1.2 model. The 4x4 is already available with the multijet and has proven itself to be pretty epic off road. And the price for a new Cross is likely to be fairly massive I'd imagine.

It'll be interesting to see what real differences there are - if it just has the Tonka toy look of the previous Cross I think it's a total waste of time (and money presumably).

Assuming it's not just a style exercise, I could see the cross maybe getting more powerful engines, like a 105hp TA and a 90hp MJ, and probably even higher suspension and chunkier tyres. Maybe some extra off road technology as well. But the price would probably put the diesel variant over 16k and for a Panda, I think that will be a very limited market. I reckon it will come with all the kit that should be standard on the other high trims but isn't.

I think the normal 4x4 looks nicer. I can't really see the Cross offering much more than it either, although I may be proven wrong.

Apart from the odd roof, I think the looks aren't too bad. Headlights should be an improvement if nothing else!

Yes. Dunno what that plastic roof is supposed to be all about. Far better to offer a full length sunroof!

The previous model had that roof thing going on. I don't think it actually was useful for anything at all? Just for the looks I guess.

Might be handy as a roof skid (along with the rails) if over-exuberant
off-roading results in inversion

Personally, I'd rather have a big fixed glass roof panel, but still with
the roof rails for maximum versatility

It's seems to be called the 500x for now but it's not at all like the 500L

Hmm... but surely 500x simply means one of the 500 range and since they're clearly not referring to one of the proper 500s I therefore assume it's one of the 500L brood?
