So is it actually a standard excess or is it what you are told to key on every quote unless the customer objects/specifies something else?

Re: Insurance renawal

It is standard and we ask if that is ok. If they have quotes from elsewhere it can be adjusted to match. They can also request it is lowered or raised by choice

Bishopbriggs or Norwich?

It maybe a default that the system selects, but standard isn't the right word tbh.

Re: Insurance renawal

And you haven't questioned it? Standard would imply it cannot be changed, IE 'that level of cover is standard, and as such cannot be removed'.

Re: Insurance renawal

I think you will find it means average, usual, accepted etc. Nowhere does it say cannot be changed. Thats like saying my car is standard and I cant add optional extras

Re: Insurance renawal

If your car is standard then it is without change

If a cover is standard then it is without change, ie cannot be removed / reduced.

So saying an excess is standard you're implying it cannot be changed. Take a young driver excess for example, that is standard, and cannot be changed.

Re: Insurance renawal

Interesting discussion. My Panda is the first proper car, so with no NCD I've had to take a hit on the first year (500 fully comprehensive) before seeing it drop in the second (300 fully comp).

Strangely I live in Norwich, not fifteen minutes walk from Aviva's call centre, and they've been amongst the least competitive at every quote. They must know the area
