Need advise on this
Panda 4x4
After the car has been run for a while ( ie 20miles or so) when I stop and start reversing I get a squeek for the rear in time with the rotation of the wheel.
Car at garage just now and they say the brakes need cleaning but this is not covered under warranty (car 4 months old 4000 miles ) anybody with tech knowledge think this is the actual problem.

Hi Pilot Ralph,

It could well be that the brakes need cleaning, but to be honest I'd be surprised as your car is still relatively new.

Our old 1.2 500 had this problem (albeit in the front) which developed after about 20 months; they were cleaned off as part of a regular service and the squeaking went away.

As for it not being covered under warranty, how much is your dealer expecting to charge you? Would be interesting to find out. Seems a tad harsh IMO not to cover it for free given the age of your car, it might be because your brakes are defective for all we know?

I have sometimes had this 1 squeak noise while reversing mostly coming from the passenager rear wheel I wonder if it is the brakes binding from being released ,a few times I have released the brakes going forward from stop to hear a grunting noise just once so wheather it takes time for the brakes to release fully ?

I've not noticed a squeak on reversing but an occasional peculiar "whooo whooo whooo" sort of sound.....very difficult to describe

That will be the discs that are ever so slightly out of true and just rubbing on the pads. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you're not getting vibration under braking (warped discs).

The op's could just need some good quality copper grease applying to the pad backing. I think it's very mean and short sighted of the dealer to want to charge for this.

I thought it was just mine. Each morning after just a 7 mile trip I reverse at the railway station car park and get a squeak. It's a slight incline and I thought at first it was the hill holder function causing it but it also does it when I return home slightly (not as obvious as the drive is gravel so you're hardly braking and it's also level). My car has only done about 3700 so similar to yours but mine's been doing it since more or less new.

I'm interested in what you find out.

Well, how strange I get exactly the same thing on my rear passenger wheel, I have to reverse up a slight incline to park at work and I get the squeek, the hill holder works but when I park in the Panda cross the hillholder feels alot better and I don'tget the squeek! Hopefully this does'nt develop into a future problem, still don't think the garage should charge to clean the brakes, if that is the problem? one to keep an eye on(y)

I bought a panda 4x4 in january, done 500 miles and a reverse squeak appeared. Taken it to the fiat garage and they said it needs a new clutch. After 500 miles.

Waiting for the part to arrive now. Not impressed.

Wow, nothing to do with the brakes then!:)

Sorry to hear that. Although I suppose on the other hand it's good in the sense that it's covered under warranty. Just unfortunate you've got a dodgy part to begin with.
