Technical DAB radio

Technical DAB radio

The original aerial had one cable (the FM coax). This is a passive antenna.

After extracting the radio from the dash of my 2016 4x4 Panda, I managed to get a multimeter onto the end of the antenna cable (which has a strange connector that I think is called Fakra) and found that there was a 1.11K Ohm resistance between the core and the outer of the coax. If this was a passive input, I understand that this should have been an open circuit and there should have been no resistance to measure at all.

If all Pandas have the same setup (I have a 2016 4x4) that would lead me to believe that the existing single antenna cable that you decribed must go to an amplifier somewhere and that could potentially be simply bypassed and that might work OK in strong DAB signal areas.

Would anybody know where this FM antenna amplifier might be hiding?

Failing that, a new antenna will be required and an extra coax to the DAB reciever from the new antenna and probably a DC supply back from the fuse box will be required. Routed as beautifully described by mosfidelity, taking great care not to upset the airbag/s above the doors.
