Over the last week or two I've noticed a rattle from the rear of the 4x4 TA when it's started from cold and revved around or above 2800rpm. I suspect it's possibly a loose bracket on the exhaust it worse a part inside it.

Anyone else had anything. I'm still under 3000 miles on the clock.

Phil

You need yo keep any eye on this, as i thought my exhaust was rattling/blowing on my 1.2 Lounge at approx 2500rpm. It turned out to be Pistons... and a replacement engine... is the noise more evident when sitting in the car.
Mine would make the noise from cold, then quieten down.

Just to update this. When I had a chance I had a quick look underneath the rear of the panda. The exhaust and heat shield above it all seemed fine. I have the exhaust a bit of a rock to see if it was hitting or catching anything and tried to wobble the shield.

All was fine and I've not heard it since so maybe it was a stone caught somewhere and I dislodged it.

philboo I noticed a rattle from the exhaust on my 4x4 TA. Hadn't thought much about it and like you wondered if it was a lose heat shield.

I then had the back seats down and was shocked at how loud the rattle was. So booked in the dealer on Friday and they recon it's something come loose inside of the silencer. They've ordered a replacement so fingers crossed that solves the problem.

Broken Baffles inside? Do modern exhausts still have them - used to make a lovely noise on 127's/Uno's etc when they went (exhaust lasted for years making a racket from the inside). I appreciate this isn't a good thing on a new car by the way!

Thanks for your update. I left my car for it's low mileage service last week and they were supposed to look at the exhaust rattle and dash rattle. On collection they said they couldn't hear anything.

Really un-impressed. I know we don't target poor dealers on here but at this rate I'll not be going back. £183 for the service (this is a 6500 mile 13 month old 4x4 TA panda) and they didn't change the pollen filter for that as it's another £30. I cannot understand what Fiat are playing at charging so much for a service.

Sorry, back to the rattle, so they did nothing about either. Having said that I've not heard the exhaust rattle since which seems strange. I may put the back seats down as I also noticed it a lot more more when I'd been driving with them down.

The dash still has the knocking but as many people, I work long hours every week and driving to sit at a fiat dealer for an entire Saturday morning to have them do nothing or take a days leave to do it is frustrating after having such good experiences with previous fiats.

I know people joke about rattles are common in Fiats but having been driven in my mates 100k mileage 56 plate BMW 3 series last night with not a single rattle (and he does no maintenance outside the necessary) makes me think again I need to get a different make next time :-(

I'll be interested to hear your update as this is what I thought was the issue on mine.

It'll probably be a week or two before I have time to hand over the car to them again and the chap I spoke with didn't know which bit exactly was loose but they're planning on just replacing the whole silencer under warranty. I'll post update once it's done.

Update: The car went in today to have the silencer replaced under warranty hopefully to cure the rattle. :)

Collected the car with the job completed - excellent dealer service and loan car as always. :)

Pulled out of the dealership to not only discover that the rattle was far from resolved, it was in fact now worse than when I dropped the car off!! Got the service manager in the car and he agreed that he could hear the rattle. Initially tried to say well it is a TwinAir  before I pointed out that this was far from my first TwinAir and I'd never had one rattle like this!

So a conversation with the technicians tomorrow and then a call to decide what to do next.

Thanks for the update. At least your dealer agrees, mine just said they couldn't hear anything. I'll go back when I've time and the dash rattle is as loud as ever.

I've only ever had the 1.2 petrol or 1.3 diesel versions previously so I'm not sure about the exhaust rattle of a twin air other than mine but as it is very quiet at times I don't think it is normal.
