Hi All,

Having driven both the MJ and the TA, I'm looking to buy a Panda 4x4 TA. I've looked at demos but most seem to lack the 5th seat / seatbelt option, which is a bit of a deal breaker unfortunately, plus the numbers don't really stack up against a new purchase on the Fiat I-deal PCP scheme. I've looked around and some brokers are offering to source white cars with no options for just under £12.5K so I just wondered what sort of deals people are managing to get in real life?

My preferred spec is:

Tuscany Green with Olive Interior
or Sicilian Orange with Pumpkin interior
5 seatbelts / head rests
Leather steering wheel
spare wheel

If anyone else is looking what's the best deal you've been offered?

Are you a member of institute of advanced motorists by any chance because fiat to a cracking deal for members.....

I bought a 4x4 TA demo with 77miles on the clock with 5 seats, spare wheel, white for £11995.

Do you work for the public sector in any shape or form? My colleague (in Local Government) just got £1750 off a new 500 via a corporate discount scheme. I don't know if that is cheaper than brokers but it sounded good on a 500.

Deals are always related to supply versus demand.

You have two problems at present - firstly the 4x4 is not exactly a "mainstream" choice so Fiat dealers tend not to order loads of them for stock, except in places like Scotland and Cumbria, where they sell well because of the terrain and weather.

Secondly, there has been a brief factory production stoppage to make way for the new Euro 6 compliant engines. Thus most dealers are quoting up to 16 weeks for a factory order at present.

Your best deal will be on a stock car, if you can find one. I had this exact conundrum two weeks ago, and called over twenty dealers. Eventually I found a stock car with the third seat belt (a must for me too), privacy glass and TomTom port. It was mediteranean blue, which is a nice colour too. I wanted a Multijet, not a TA, but some dealers did have TA's though I did not query exact specs, because they were not what I wanted.

Your best time to negotiate is at the end of the month, when dealers need a few units for their bonuses. I always do this.

My advice would be to do the internet thing first, and then start on the dealers after you have researched the web. Never accept the first deal, and politely decline anybody who resists dealing over the phone and insist that you go into the garage for "their best deal". I have not bought a car other than over the telephone for over ten years, so anyone who says this just does not deserve or need the business.

Stick to your guns and never be afraid to put the phone down, take stock, and call back later. Remember, you are giving them business, not the other way around.

For what it is worth, I negotiated just over £2K off of the list price. Good luck.

If you don't mind driving the 100 odd miles to Cardiff, then my buddy at Griffin Mill will beat any deal. I know he wants to break his record and register 100 cars this month.
Last time I was there he had 5 4x4 in stock. He does buy them for stock.
Give them a call, ask for Marc.

Thanks guys, that's most helpful, presumably if it's a stock car but unregistered, then the regular fiat finance deals should be available. I'll let you know how I get on.

Also, find the big chains of fiat dealers, like Sytner for BMW or Mini, and ring the 'branch' closest to you, they will be able to search all the stock for the group.

I did this with my wife's countryman, we wanted a black one and our local dealer said it would take 3 months to build. I phoned Mini and asked which dealer had a Black Diesel Countryman in stock and Mini didn't know which they admitted was a bit poor!

Anyway I then started phoning 'groups' and found that Sytner had one (they have about 20 Mini branches and therefore a lot of stock), the closest branch was 60 miles away, so that's where we went, they shipped it in from wherever it was and we got it the following week.

Be mindful that once you give a car dealer your contact details you will get a lot of phone calls offering you not quite what you want but at very good prices - we were offered a petrol Countryman for a lot less than the diesel and a lot cheaper than the relative cost of the fuel against mpg, I nearly did it, but we wanted a new plate etc etc.

Good luck

Thanks - can you combine these discounts with negotiated discounts too?

No, that's the deal.

On saying that though, Panda is now a full margin car for Fiat dealers, so you may do better than those prices anyway.

There's another scheme called Group affinity.
At the moment on Panda 4x4 there's 14% disc and another £250 off. That wouyld bring a standard twinair 4x4 down to £11800 or so,
great if you have cash to spend as I don't thgink you can combine that with the nigh on interest free pcp deal.

Thanks Deeup - yes I may be best going down the negotiated private sale discount route, But thanks for all your input! What are the qualifying circumstances for the Group affinity scheme you mentioned?

I have left a message for your mate Marc at Griffin Mill, so hopefully he'll be able to sort me out a deal!

Unfortunately Griffin Mill haven't turned up anything yet, so I'm still looking. I have a few 'irons in the fire' and hopefully the deals will get better as the month gets nearer the end. Does anyone know about eligibility for the Group Affinity scheme.

Also, having test driven cars with / without the leather steering wheel I'm keen to go for this. However the dealer I have on the hook has two cars - one the right colour / trim combo, the other with a leather wheel. How hard would it be for him to swap steering wheels on stock cars?

Not hard at all I suspect and if u commit to buy one I,m sure they will. Remember its the gear knob to swap as well!!
