My abarth had squeaks when reversing after 30,000 miles from the rear brakes and ended up with new pads to fix it.

The panda has been doing it since almost new :-(

Oh yes, mine went in for 'owl noises' on reversing too.....they said its resonance from the rear brakes due to defective pads. They are getting permission from fiat to replace under warranty as the car has only done 2600 miles. .....watch this space!

Mine has only done 4500 but it's been like that ages

Low battery voltage seems to trigger all manner of false or 'ghost' warnings on Fiats and Alfas, probably on other cars too. The fact that in many instances the ELD continues to operate despite the warning saying otherwise suggests this could just be a ghost warning. Perhaps the software is too sensitive to a drop in voltage and the update corrects this.

On my Stilo it threw up warnings when the battery was on the way out. Basically the computer tried to check the various systems and because of low battery voltage it couldn't confirm the systems were functioning, so it triggered a warning. One of the warnings was 'Alternator Failure' which wasn't far from the truth because there was a voltage problem, but it was because of the battery rather than the alternator.

However I've still got a s/s problem..... It failed to restart yesterday (embarrassing) and today it stops and after a short time the ESC light comes on, it restarts and there is an error message...... Going back after Christmas

sounds like you and I have sibling cars.
I have the same stop/start issues but mine fails to restart nearly everyday.
A new battery has not fixed it.
Also the noisy brakes.

My car is going in in February for a week for them to try to finally sort the issue.

In the meantime ss is off....

I'll be really interested to hear how you both go on. I have ss switched off so I could have that fault but wouldn't know.

That's my birthday. It would be a great present for me to be told the software update fixes the problems (squealy brakes accepted )
