Yesterday whilst driving my March '13 registered 4x4 Panda, I suddenly lost the ability to select gears and the lever wouldn't engage- only a floppy fowrard and backward movement. Recovery service wondered about snapped cable but were able to move the lever from the engine bay so discounted this. Had to be brought home on low loader due to 4 wheel drive and waiting to go to dealer. Only done 2000 miles. Any ideas?!!

There is just one thing on my mind ,If my panda 4x4 breaks down would I need them to have a low loader or trailer , or could they just jack up the front wheels and tow it ,surely if the car is in nutral hopefully the front wheels would stay still and not try to move , I hope someone can answer this question for me thanks

Just read the manual. Can't remember what it said, but it is explained clearly. I think it comes down to either trailer or lift one end and other end on special trolley.

My car was recovered to home on a low loader and then from home to dealer in the same way. It was stuck in gear .
Latest is that it is one of the cables attached to the gearbox. Its on back order-Fiat have none in stock.
I am getting close to consider rejecting the car. This is the first (and hopefully the last for now) mechanical problem but its also had the issues with the bubbling B pillar trims and then the wheelarch trims coming unstuck. I had a Mini Cooper S for 7 years from new prior to this and never had any significant issues.
I've left my thoughts with the aftersales manager whilst I drive the dealer's Fiat 500 which isn't bad at all!

I finally got my Panda back after 2 1/2 weeks off the road. Fiat still have the gear cables on back order with no date for their arrival so the dealer took them off another new car (apparently!) and fitted them to mine. Not really very happy with the parts supply. Is it just that its a new model??
Also, do others think its ok to have parts from another car rather than new ones supplied from Fiat?

I would be happy with parts from a new car. I actually asked the dealer to do this with the starter motor on our 2 month old 500 twinair. They refused and so we had to wait 3 weeks on a starter motor that was on back order. It seems fiat only make spares when someone needs them, hence the wait.

That's what I said in my thread, let all Panda owners make a petition before its too late. Trust me on this one, we'll all have surprises with this model sooner or later. There are are serious quality issues with twin air and general fit and finish. Let's make the petition so we can present to fiat uk. I already know someone there where we can send our petitions to....

If you really have been sold a product that's not fit for purpose, you are entitled to return it to the vendor. You seem to be convinced that everybody is having problems with their new Pandas, on what do you base this opinion, other than your own unfortunate experience?

I've had over thirty Fiats - plus Alfas and Lancias - over a period of over 45 years and have suffered no notable problems. My only recent problem was with the clutch on my Panda 100HP, which dragged from day one - it was changed with no quibbles and gave no further problems.
