Why bother getting it looked at if you're going to switch it off?
Personally , I love stop/start

Wouldn't say I loved it, but mine's still working fine, despite only using
the car about once a week (but the journeys are long: I've done over
5000 miles in 5 months...)

It's a bit disconcerting to have the engine restart automatically, it does
this if stopped for about 3 minutes without the door being opened!

My stop start wasn't working on my newish Panda TA. Fiat dealer fitted new battery under warranty - works perfectly now

Re: Panda 0.9 Start Stop niggles

My Panda's Stop/Start never worked quite correctly. In the summer it'd last about 10 seconds before starting up again - even if you turned off all the ancillary items like the fan, radio etc. In these colder times, it was even worse as it would restart immediately after shutting itself off.

However, last week I had a first service and the ignition coils were replaced under warranty. Since then, the Stop/Start has worked perfectly!! You can stop at lights with the lights, fan and radio on and it won't restart itself - it'll hold for about two minutes before starting itself up again.

So for all of you who still have these stop/start issues - might be worth getting the dealer to replace the ignition coils under warranty.

Was you battery disconnected for the work to be done (trip mileage / mpg reset on collection)?

Alternatively you might have had a software update during the service which has changed the tolerances on the SS system.

Re: Panda 0.9 Start Stop niggles

The trip hadn't been reset so I'm taking the educated guess that it didn't have the battery disconnected.

I don't think it had a software update as it wasn't mentioned when they explained what they did to the car, and it hasn't come up on the invoice with all the other work they carried out (service and warranty).

Re: Panda 0.9 Start Stop niggles

Looking for a few pointers on stop start on my TA4x4. Currently headed to dealer next week as cuts in after max 20s even if all usual suspect power drain shut off. Battery , software or ignition coils a problem?

Cheers

Re: Panda 0.9 Start Stop niggles

I seem to have the opposite problem to everybody. The stop bit works fine it's just the start bit that's the problem! It's left me stuck at the lights a few times now. The only way to restart it is to turn the ignition off and start it manually. Otherwise it just remains in "stop" mode no matter how frantically the clutch pedal is pressed

Battery I'd have said. Needs a pulse charge probably.

Fault with clutch pedal switch, should be covered under warranty.

That, or you're not pressing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.

I remember one amusing incident when someone brought in a car complaining the clutch wouldn't disengage properly and was making a crunching noise every time they changed gear. Initially concerned they might be facing a large bill, their focus quickly shifted to an object I retrieved from the depths of the footwell. It was the remains of what was once a very expensive ladies shoe.

They seemed more angry at the loss of the shoe than pleased about the repair bill they didn't get.

You're not the only one.

My dealer is still struggling with this problem. They are having the car for a week in Feb to try and finally get to the bottom of it.
I've had a new battery, and it seems the clutch pedal switch is ok.
If you find yourself in a situation where the car is playing up then go and stop on a downward hill. Wait for the stop to kick in, then roll away. In theory the car should fire up at around 3mph. My car doesn't start so that rules out the clutch pedal switch. There's something else happening (or not )

Yes of course, how could I forget.
That's 3 of us on here then with the same problem.

The more of us with it the more likely we'll get a cure.

Re: Panda 0.9 Start Stop niggles

Sorry for double post, can't edit after 2 hours.

Anyway, just a thought. Another way to test the clutch pedal switch is this.
Find a place with no other traffic and stop your motor. put the car into gear and try to start it with the clutch pedal up.
The car should not start if all is good with the switch.

Try this again when the car is exhibiting the non-restart fault. Again, the car shouldn't start if the switch is good.

Are you sure. 500 with SS working correctly will still turn over and bolt in gear if starting with the key.
