Almost six months since taking delivery, and I don't see many new Pandas on the road.

When I do, I wave. We're clearly people of similarly sophisticated taste and style, and it seems we're few and far between. But I just wondered, does anyone else greet other new Panda drivers like this? Or am I being naively friendly? :)

Haha!

Well, I've tried waving at other new Panda owners that I've seen down here in Devon, but no-one seems to having any desire to wave back at all. I'll keep trying though...:D

Certainly not like it used to be in our 500; the vast majority of people did use to wave back, some with ridiculous levels of enthusiasm!

Am beginning to see a few more on the roads now though, in the past week I've seen two reds, two whites, a black one and a coffee-coloured one (just looked on the FIAT website and this is the Sweet Candy Beige one, very rare I'm sure!).

I think those for whom only a 4x4 Panda will do are more likely to wave and they are probably the same bunch of enthusiasts who roam this forum!

A higher proportion of regular Pandas are likely to be driven by folk who simply see the car as basic transport and maybe don't do the waving thing?

My wife hates it whenever I wave at the drivers of certain rear engined air-cooled cars...

Must be a bloke thing this waving??

Yeah, I think what you say here could well have an element of truth to it.

Also - as much as I do like our Panda, I have to say I agree partly with what babbo_umbro has said in the past regarding the anonymous nature of the new Panda.

Sure, from the side it's pretty obvious that it's a Panda. However, were it not for the DRLs I don't personally think it's always all that obvious from the front that the car is a Panda until it's much closer.

It's certainly much more anonymous than a 500 IMO; you can see one of them quite a way off!:)

When we had a VW Beetle we twice saw the same couple of nuns in their Beetle waving furiously at us. Must have been local.
Now in a Mito and get the odd glance from others. It's about as rare as the new Panda.
Imagine if Fiesta drivers waved at each other.

I waved at another Panda driver awhile back.

The other driver looked at me as if I were a creature from another planet.

That was the moment I remembered I was driving the 500 :nutter:

I never wave. If I have previously encountered somebody in a similar car I might smile, or even move my hand on the steering wheel as well, if it is a real friend, but that's the limit. I have spoken to friends in adjacent cars while waiting together at lights though.

I was once waved at by a very happy looking person in a similar car to mine and I intitially thought they must be a friend, so enthusiastic were they, so I had to ponder why I hadn't recognised them, and finally I realised that they either were fluffy happy people who recognised some sort of shared affinity because of our cars, or they were a bit bonkers.

Either way, by the time I had assimilated the possibilities the moment was over and we had passed.

I drive a Mito too, and wave if I encounter another :)
But I drive so infrequently, and Mito's are so rare,
that I rarely get the opportunity...

However, my Panda Trekking Twinair (with sliding rear seat) looks
set to be extremely rare, going by how long delivery is taking :bang:
(ordered in January :( )

I used to drive a defender 90 and other (male only!) Kandy drivers waved without fail. I thought it was rather nice.
Not sure there will be enough of us panda 4x4 drivers around ever to meet let alone wave! Lol
