Irrelevant, although I can see where you are coming from morally :) It has a 12 month MOT...therefore it's roadworthy. And it's only going to a Fiat dealer...who will probably make 750 quid on it... :-D

I could always put a can of that pathetic squirty cream in the boot, if it's good enough for Fiat...

Moot point now as I've secured a 14" Punto space saver....hope it fits the new panda hub...any thoughts on that? Am I ok as long as it is 4 stud?

For clarity this is a 2003-12 Panda I'm swapping for a new shape 2012 Panda.

My original point was to wonder if it's a legal requirement to have a "spare" in one form or another - in the event, I see that it's not, but, if you do have one, it has to meet the legal requirements.

You'd need to check the offset of the Punto space-saver - the offset of the space-savers on a 1.2, or MJ, Panda and the 100HP are very different to take into account the different rim widths and offsets of the full-size wheels.

Thanks for the info, it's a minefield...never had a car with no spare and I'm not looking forward to driving around without one. Had three punctures in my current panda 1.2 within first year of ownership. :-/

Replacement is a stock car on an outrageously good staff discount, or I would have ticked the space saver option on a factory order.

From the owners handbook of my Mk4 Panda the rims are:-

5.5J X 14H2 - ET35

With Space saver spare:-
135/80 R14 84M

Does anyone know of a Fiat matching this rim size/space saver specification that has been on the market longer so I can acquire a spare more cheaply?

The Punto Mk2 space-saver is the same size; and I'm pretty sure the PCD is the same (not so sure about offset...). There are usually loads on eBay.... Hope this helps....

PS: There are loads of spare-wheel well toolkits around, as well, for the Punto... -- it therefore might be worth buying one of these, as well...?

Thanks, I'm not sure how to calculate the offset myself, can it be derived from the rim dimensions above?
*Edit Found this guide to measuring...
http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/wheeloffset.html

Apparently the PCD for the 03> and 2012 Panda and mk2 Punto is 4 X 98 with offset for the panda of 35

*edit Found another handy guide not sure if the veracity of the info but it's looking like the Mk2 Punto space saver I have is going to fit...
http://www.wheel-fitment.com/car/Fiat/Panda%20(2012%20-%20)/

I've also learned that fitting a wheel with an offset >20mm different will void your insurance as it alters the track of the car.

I managed to nab the tools with it also, result!

Do reply if these figures sound dodgy, they are off the Internet lol.

Hopefully, this brilliant post by dave should help...! [PCD = "pitch circle diameter"; and no need to apologize -- this forum is about learning, after all...!] (y)

Looks like the offset is pretty much the same.... :)

Sooooo just to confirm, I tried the punto mk2 space saver on my 2012 Panda today and it fits perfectly...Just waiting for the 2nd set of tools and jack from eBay now and I have both our Pandas sorted for spare wheels, so can dump the foam compressor in the shed until it is time for trade in (y)

Can anyone confirm the pressure for a punto mk2 space saver? Is it indeed 42psi as I've read elsewhere?

*edit
I can :) manual says 2.8 bar - so 40 psi (ish)

Hope I can add to this thread. I found the info really useful and will get a Mk2 Punto spacesaver. Size seems to be confirmed by my Panda handbook, even for 15 inch alloys on Lounge. Should I be looking for Panda or Punto insert with jack, tools, etc?

My Panda 4x4 (2013 model) came with a space saver, but the tools do not fit in the wheel well. Would the Punto toolkit mentioned above fit my spare and would they fit in the available space on a 4x4. I'm a bit fed up of having the tool roll thing in the boot!

Why not? My Mum has a 2013 4x4 with space saver & all the tools neatly inside the wheel - looking at the downloaded handbook (the car is with her) it's just like the Fiat spares have been for years - the jack fits inside the spare & the tools slot around or under it?

Interesting. Is that how it came from FIAT (with the tools in the wheel)? My 4x4 came with all of the tools in a special bag that has a velcro strip to hold it in place in the boot. Do other 4x4 owners have this?

Yes there are certainly no tools in the boot. I can't check where they are stowed until the weekend, but someone else should be able to.

The downloaded handbook looks like there are specific places for the tools, but I assume it's the padded tool roll type? I've got one in the Coupe and it fits anywhere in or around the spare wheel - it doesn't rattle as it's padded.

I guess you could Velcro it in, but the ones I've seen use the Velcro to keep it closed, not as a fixing?

Edit: the handbook states that the toolbox (?!) is under the carpet in the boot - so it will be in or around the space saver. (y)
