Technical Boot mechanism...

Disappointed to see this I had the boot lock fail like this twice (thankfully under warranty) on my 500 the dealer seemed completely aware that this was an issue and changed it without hesitation. It did stop and start working several times the first time around before I got fed up having to use the fob every time.

Having switched to a Panda this was one problem I was hoping to have seen the back of I guess not. Does anyone know if it's the same mechanism?

It's pretty much the same mechanism as the 500, if not identical actually. I don't know what the modification might be, but if it is going to be any use then it needs to be able to keep dirt and grime from wet roads out as that is what causes all the trouble.

Ours is still just about working at the moment so I'll be giving it a good clean out when the weather is a bit nicer. If you go back to posts 89 to 100 in this thread, you'll see that there is a workaround for this. I followed this and the boot switch on our car has been pretty much fine. If it jams up when you are out, you just need to use the "finger/thumbnail" trick to free the switch.

It's not so much a lock failure but that the button just gets filled up with crap, meaning that you can't actually activate it.

However I would say if the solution suggested here doesn't work, then there probably is something more serious wrong.

Does the boot mechanism make a strange sound when you press the button on the boot door to open the boot? Just today I thought boot mechanism failed as I wasn`t able to open it with first button on the remote. Now it is working again but it makes that strange sound I am not sure if it was there before. Never really paid attention so don`t know if it is normal.

Can anyone confirm there is absolutely no sound when opening the boot?

Strange clicking sound is gone and boot mechanism is again working like new. Opens like a charm together with all doors after pressing first button on remote. Now that was strange

Hey alamar,

Have you had a lot of rain recently? If so, it's quite possible the switch just got blocked up with mud/water etc, and now it has dried out?

The weather here in the south west of England has been much better the last month. The boot switch didn't really work properly for about 3 or 4 months this winter (I just kept using the "finger nail" trick;)).

Anyway, now we have had a long spell of weather with less rain, the boot switch has fixed itself.

Yes some rain and I had been at self service car wash just two days earlier. Maybe that is the reason for temporary problem.
