General One Week To Go.

A friend of mine has got a lease car and one of the reqirements was to do a two hour driving test. The 'instructor' told her to stick to the change points indicated by the dash, even though they were bonkers and she found herself staring at the dash rather than the road  The instructor said the indicator saves fuel and is good for the environment: idiot!

Oviously the 'instructor' was a jobsworth, but it shows where we we are going with regards to disinvolvement from the job of driving properly and the blind obedience of rules. She passed by the way, but she wasn't impressed by the new technology. It was a Ford by the way.

Sigh. Sad that such "instructors" still happen.

My instructor was much better. He explained to me that the gear ratios we will be training to are much lower than usual, experienced driver uses, but they are better for learners as they give more control and leeway in case of errors. He said that they will most likely pick on it during the test (and they did), but this is just verbal notice and does not affect pass/fail - so could be just ignored. Better to flawlessly drive not eco friendly than fail in eco friendly fashion ;)
