General Building a Panda at the Fiat Plant, Italy

Fiat's robotics company - Comau - has been at the forefront of production automation for years. That should guarantee high productivity but, unfortunately, production can be stopped/interrupted by means such as blocking off the factory to stop deliveries or going on strike because there's an important football match going on - that's not fanciful, there was a strike in a Fiat plant in the last few years because a senior manager suggested there had been a strike to coincide with a football match. Next time Napoli has an important match, or Italy in an international competition, they might as well shut the plant.

Yes, you are absolutely spot on there...Looks like something out of The Terminator with all the robots!

The plant was built from scratch for the Alfasud, when Alfa was run by Finmeccanica (state controlled), in an attempt to bring much needed employment to the south (hence Alfasud).

Sadly we all know what happened to the poor old 'Sud! Mind you, even if it was built elsewhere, the Soviets had supplied them with bio-degradable steel!

Brilliant stuff, they ought to put this to music like they did in the 80's and make an award winning advert out of it!

What's happened to Fiat advertising? It's basically rubbish.

It's reassuring that so much of the work is done by robots.

By the way, you can see many car production lines, from many makers, on YouTube these days.

And I agree that Fiat advertising is very indifferent these days.

Those videos are amazing. If we totally ignore the economic downside of non-employment, I wonder how far off they are having a totally human free production factory?
