Iíve just been getting a 2009 Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet. For some strange reason it doesnít have a 12v socket for the likes of my sat nav or ipod etc.

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

Little update for you. I found the connector under there this afternoon. I was having a good dig around inside it when I dropped my torch inside, which promptly rolled away into the blackness! To get it out I had to take the whole thing out. When I dismantled it lo and behold I found the connector taped to the underside of the plastic trim.

I'll buy a fuse and stick the old mans multimeter on the connector soon. Hopefully there will be power but I'm not hopeful

Btw, what fuse do need? 20 amp seems a wee bit ott to me.

Yep a 20 amp is the fella you need, I've just checked the handbook.

Good Luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Are you sure that's the fuse box on the right hand side of the engine bay as you look in? It seems a lot different.

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

Hi Mallettron

Your fusebox doesn't look anything like mine so I got my handbook out again and there is no picture of a fusebox that resembles your fuse box in my handbook. Another quirk of the Panda?

Anyway, on to the 12v socket, as I've said numerous times in this thread if you haven't got the 12v connector and the fuse already installed then I'm yet to hear of anyone who has managed to get this to work. I think this means your out of luck. Sorry.

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

I think you are right about it being a quirk,
Its definately a panda 1.1 active 56reg, the fuse box is on the rhs of the engine bay. the plug and lead (there are 2, one for the lighter socket and one for the remote door mirrors?) are there, the lighter socket one fits
Trial and error and more study I think

Thanks all

ps I was going to have a go at the boot light as well but I'm not sure now

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

You have two connectors?? (one for the lighter socket and one for the remote door mirrors?) Mine only had one.

It really is strange, I've never heard of so many variations in a car. Blummin heck.

This next bit comes with a health warning as I'm not a mechanic, electrician or qualified to suggest anything...

...Anyway, I've looked at you fuse box again and I've looked at mine and I reckon if you couldn't resist the temptation and you were to try a fuse anywhere in there I would stick a 20 amp fuse along side the green 30amp situated at the bottom right of your picture.

My only worry would be you end up like Compercol earlier in this thread and blow a relay.

Did the lid / cap of the fusebox not indicate which slot the is the cigarette lighter belongs to?

Whatever you try keep us posted.
Sean

I'd go for that slot as well. Looks like you have some contacts in it too. You might just get lucky here!

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

Right, Ive had time to do some more investigations

The Haynes manual is wrong, the fuse box is nothing like

The fiat manual is right, took me a while to realise if you look at things upside down of course they look wrong. The manual is correct and the back of the fuse cover shows the same (good tip that)

Bad parts, although I have connectors in the centre console and looks like there are connectors for the fuse box, all is not right

There is one connector in the fuse box, the other side is missing, looks like there are several others missing as well, seems like they have use a different wiring harness throughout the car

So without some surgery to find another switched live wire I will be without an accessory socket

BUGGER!!!!!

Anyone want an accessory socket and plate for the cost of some postage???

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

Thanks for all the photos.
My 2009 59 1.1 Eco had the plug connector as per the illustration. I got the kit, fitted it and put the 20A blade fuse in F85. No joy, I also noticed mine had no 30A (pink) relay in slot next to fuse, and handbook said it was cigar lighter relay, so got one of those for around £3 off ebay. Still no joy! Tried another relay in the the same slot to check it not a duffer, the problem seems to be as suggested on this thread that those Pandas with out socket fitted as standard don't have a live to the connector. Will one single core wire with an inline fuse from the battery do? IS one of the two wires to the 3-pin connector a return? Or two core to both sides of the battery and bypass the connector completely?

That's exactly what the guys at LC motors in Newport said would have to be done. Only thing is, they wanted nearly £80 to do the job!

"Stuff that" I said, "if I do a drive where I need one, I'll just use the old mans' car!"

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

Not sure if anyone is still watching this threat but...

Having followed the great instructions left by 50p, I found that I actually don't have a relay fuse for the power socket at all. From what I can see, T31 (a 30 Amp/12 V relay) is missing which directly relays to the power socket.

Furthermore, it turns out that the socket where the relay is placed, isn't actually wired up at all to the mains. So even with the 20 amp fuse that I bought from halfords, the power socket still won't work....

This could explain someone of the problems you guys are having....

Hope this helps (anyone)!

Thumbs up Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

My son has a Panda Active 11 reg, followed the instructions, (fuse was fitted in the fusebox in the engine bay), all worked perfectly.

Re: How to install an original 12v power socket in a Fiat Panda

Excellent guide, I will go home and examine my Panda immediately - it drives me nuts that I can't plug my satnav in - rendering it useless! (the satnav, not the panda, obviously!!)

thanks
