Dear all

it looks like I may have to revise my opinion of the basic, unservoed, Panda brakes...

I drove the Panda for the first time after a couple of days in the KA (I have been passenger in the Panda, so it hasn't just been standing), and frightened myself silly at the top of the road - having got used to the incredible ammount of servo assistance the KA has.

Monster portion of humble pie coming my way, I think:I

Hi there,

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the power assisted brakes on a Renault Clio. For the first couple of hours I was doing emergency stops!

But going back to the Y10 - apart from a bit more force being necessary - the stopping distances are very good, the only trouble being a tendency for the narrow 135 wheels to lock up. With wider wheels the brakes are excellent.

The brakes do have a racing pedigree - the later Panda brakes are the rear assemblies on a Delta Integrale.

Regards,

Martin

Fix It Again Tony!

John - I know just what you mean.

It's amazing how quickly I'd become used to them, and thought little of it. I love the un-servoed Panda brakes for their simplicity, but...

16 months ago I drove a Seicento Sporting. Pulled up a bit harsh first time, then got used to it. Had the car for just over a day and all was fine. Got back into my Panda and very nearly had to change my trousers when I first pushed the middle pedal. I'd become used to the Sei stopping power.

Then in January I had a little drive in the new Panda. With ABS, and EBD as well as the servo, I very nearly went through the windscreen, and I fear that if it wasn't for an alert van driver behind me, I might well have been the cause of the first crunched Panda in Cornwall :I

Anyway, you become accustomed to the car you're in. It's only when I swap cars that things get 'exciting'. Still wouldn't change anything about my Panda though :)
