i was going to replace my bottom end with my old uno engine.

but im thinking i would LOVE !! a 1242 4x4 panda.

so... fromt he reasearch iv done i understand...

the gearbox will fit fine.

the panda engine mount will replace the punto one

i can bolt my dizzy and dizzy block onto the 1242 head and get rid of horrid injection.

and i can replace the injection thingy and inlet manifold with my
panda one and panda carb, and then put bigger jets in my carb .

BUT ! can i put my panda head onto the 1242 block ?
will it affect stuff ? and will it fit ?
that would solve exhaust alignment and fuel pump probs.

thanks people !

aran.

P.S. woooo panda meet sunday ! see you there

Fitting a Panda head won't fix the exhaust alignment problems. The 1242 block is taller so the downpipe needs to be longer. Also you may well have cambelt problems. As the block is taller the cambelt is different. You may well find that the pulleys are different as well.

For a fuel pump, just fit an electric pump. It is a 10 minute job.

if the pulleys are differnent you should be ok taking the bottom cam pulley from the old block, or, actually, i'd use the 1242's top pulley on the panda head and then make sure i used a 1242's cam belt.

i've heard the panda 4x4 box doesnt get on well with extra power though..

absolutely, i mean... what's the worst that can happen?

ask 'neverstop' about it... he's got a 1242 panda.

ok so IF !! i couldnt just put my head on there.
which i really wanna.

i could use an electronic fuel pump.

and i need to make a exhaust spacer to go on the bottom of the exhaust manifold. which needs to be as high as the punto block is bigger than the panda block. correct.?

that sounds easy.

ooo oooo i still have this uno engine in the yard,
will the flwheel fit onto the punto block ?

cos i might lighten it.
or mayb i should wait till i get a punto engine, then remove the flywheel and lighten that. lol. im excited.
how much can you lighten a flywheel by .whats a safe amount ??!

thanks aran.

Why? The only thing you will gain is the fuel pump. Does anyone know if the 4x4 and 1242 cam profiles are different?

As far as I know, yes.

Why do you want to lighten the flywheel? For off-road you want lots of smooth bottom end torque. If you lighten the flywheel you will make the engine run rougher at low revs and it will be easier to stall. Lightening the flywheel will only make a very small difference to acceleration. I know I sound a bit negative here but it seems that you are looking at doing quite a bit of extra work that won't really gain you much.

By the way, please let us know when you get it running. I am thinking of putting one of those engines in my Torino (Panda 4x4 based kit car)

ye good point about the flywheel,
i hadnt thought it though at all.

being an engineer i just wanted to mill stuff !!
haha

thanks for the info !

i know you HATE electric fuel pumps. but if you fit one it will make future engine upgrades/modifications much easier. plus, you could let me how to do it so i can get a 1242 engine.

but...in meantime stick head off panda on and see what happens.
