General These lot have got a cheek

Hello Alan.
Thats what I would expect.

I once joined that forum to ask for information on a problem with a 620 SLI ( or whatever ) for a work colleague. They did not seem to know much about that either.
Rgds.

I actually own a Rover 214 (it's a long story which I'll explain further down), I can safely say two things, the interior is no where near as bad as most Panda's, but it is the worst car I've ever driven in my life. I even preferred driving BSM's knackered simulator thing to that bloody Rover.

I bought it when I was 18 planning to learn to drive and start using it, in the meantime I loaned to my Mum who was without a car. Anyway long story short I drove it once or twice hated it so much I gave it to her.

I can make my Panda's interior look better, but they can't make their Rovers drive and feel like anything other then a pile of ****!!!

Very true, just point out the original Rover 200, the metro, the reliability of the K series and theyll soon go quiet! Im just glad they havent seen a Dance!

Hi NP, the Metro evolved into the Rover 100 - but there seem to be fewer of these around now than Pandas. Just check their wheel arches out, they seem to have gone on all the metros I have seen.

I don't mind Rover because they were one the last of the British car 'brands', in fact I thought it was sad when they went down the pan. I am very patriotic!!! (despite my obsession with small Italian cars!)

The Metro and K-Series weren't that bad, especially when the two are combined.

The 8v that the metro had was fine and was a reliable engine, the 16v was an abomination and totally useless for purpose which was fitted in the 214 the 200 and the 25.

A mate in the trade stopped buying them at auction after he had 10 in a row fail on him from then on he only bought the 8v and 216 honda engined ones and never had problems.

I did have a 216GSi 3 dr which was pretty good but banned having a 214 16v still prefer the Sisley & the Selecta though. I'm sure I will also prefer the italia 90 when it arrives as well.

Well, the 200 and 400 series were a joint development with Honda and felt more "Honda-like" than Rover, and the City Rover (less said about that the better) was built in India.

Sadly the last true Rover was probably the SD1, a design that was first released in the mid 70's. All subsequent new model Rovers/ Austins/ Leylands or whatever they were called were more Japanese than British. The Triumph Acclaim for instance was simply a re-badged Honda Accord, and so was the 80's 213/ 216 plus of course the mk2 200 and 400 series. The 600 was based on a Honda design and the first generation 800 was also sold as a Honda Legend.

Not sure what happend after BMW took over, nor when the workers consortium bought out BMW. I think going by reviews they just re-hashed the old models that were long past their sell by date.

So not much Britishness to mourn when Rover finally got axed really...
