CAn anyone help me? Ive just tried to source a new master cylinder for a 1991 fiat panda. Best price i can find is £80 plus vat. Its the one with the front line coming out the end of the cylinder and the T piece out the top as per earlier pandas. To get a new masster cylinder for a later model it only costs £22.67 but this has a different casting. Does anyone know where i can find a cheaper master cylinder or has anyone experience similar problems and how did you overcome them? Thanks very much.

Scrapyard for a brake part[xx(][?]Don't think it's the best idea...it could be fine for 100,000km as it could leak after a weekB), worth to shop around seeking for a lower price (if possible)!

In my town a brake pump takes atleast 2 hours of work to be fitted and to bleed the circuit, plus a bottle of Dot3/4 specific fluid...do you still want to tryB)[?]

The job of bleeding wont b a problem. im a mechanic and done it many times before. im just quering the price. it just seems stupid. can the £22.67 cylinder be fitted? the only difference being the port locations? i just wondered if anyone had come across a simular problem in sorcing a master cylinder for a pre 1991 vehicle.

Don't know anything about the different types of Panda's cylinders,as mine has been replaced by a mech;)...but the 22£ seems to be a fair price, minding here you can't buy one (non genuine Fiat) for less than 15€B).Let's wait for a reply by an Haynes owner:)!

Is the later one (early 1993 onwards???) supposed to have the servo vacuum bit bolted to the front??
Try posting a part number - it may help to get more information about what is expected (with the cheaper version).

Right then, this seems to be gettin outa hand kind of :) my fiancee wrote the first message and got it alittle around her neck. ok so here goes...
Me and my fiancee both have fiat pandas, hers is a J1991 769cc and mine is a E1989 769cc. both of which have the same pattern master cylinder. any one who has the haynes book will see that the master cylinder on page 119 of the "old" blue haynes manual (1981-1987) has the brake line comming out of the front of the unit. but in the green manual. the one covering all models (except 4x4) shows the cylinder which has the front brake pipe coming out of the top front of the casting. now to get the cylinder which has the top exit for the pipe costs £22.67. and are readily availible. but if you want the one where the front pipe comes out of the very end of the cylinder. it would cost £80.00+ if you can get one! i was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and what they did. hope that makes it a bit clearer, thanx guys :)

Below is the reply I've been trying to post to the Forum, since last night...

Just had a look at the master cylinder on my early 1993 CLX (non-servoed - one of the last without).

Bearing in mind I don't know much of the history of this car, and it may have had irregular parts fitted before I got it, etc etc...

The master cylinder has the pipe out of the front, like the earlier ones.

Looking at Haynes (to 1993, blue cover) it shows pipe from the front, as you say.

Looking at Porter (to 1994) it shows the pipe from the top, but I think the version they are showing has a servo (although it isn't in the picture).

IMHO the pipe from the top version is the front part of the servoed system.
I don't know if you could fit it as an alternative.

Best guess is that they made the fittings sufficiently different to avoid the wrong part being fitted by mistake, with whatever consequences....

Perhaps this is the opportunity to fit a servo (and appropriate master cylinder) on your Panda, if the servo is available for a reasonable price.
