Hi everybody, only my second or third posting so a liitle bit nervous asking questions but here goes.
My H reg 4x4 74k on the clock developed a squeaky front wheel.read some of the postings and came to the conclusion it was the wheel hub.
Followed the very good guide to replacing it and managed to do it quite succesfully, well twice actually as i managed to put the protection plate the wrong way round,(idiot, I wont make that mistake again)
The old hub looked knackered.
1st point . the original wheel hub nut did not have a washer. but I put one on the new one. Is that correct ?
2nd point. The front brake pads had no anti rattle clips when I took them off, and because of the holiday I had to put them back on without clips. Is that a no no ?
And now the squeak has come back. Damn.
Could it be the drive shaft ? and could it be packed with grease if I can slip off the drive shaft rubber.
If so what sort of grease do I use?
One of the centre exhaust hanger/rubbers broke and cracked the exhaust pipe before the back box, cost me ten quid for a bandage ,
some compound and a new hanger. I love cheap motoring.

Finally are all Panda doors the same ? as the two on ebay look better than mine, and redder.
And finally finally is T cut the best for taking my orange Panda back to its original red colour.
Thanks for your time.

Afraid i can only help on the last question. T-cut will bring the colour out but its a lot of work, try and get hold of a machine polished (Can be had for ~£15) or borrow one from a friend.

Then you'll need to put some wax on to protect the paint work

Don't be nervous if you got a Panda you'll fit right in :) and even if you didn't have one ;)

The bearing washer Yes it's a good idea to put one on as it will spread the force more evenly when tightening it up. Did you remember to replace the inner washers between the driveshaft & the back of the hub? (yep I forgot that one in the past  )

One other thing there are two bearing types one has a flat surface as shown....and is the correct bearing.

the other is bevled as shown...and will cause problems.

I fitted the wrong type on the first occasion when I changed them and they scrapped when turning and was simmilar to a squeek. The difference in them is clear.

If the Driveshaft or CV joint had gone or was on the way it would grate more than squeek so I doubt that is your problem

As for the anti-rattle clips, no you don't need them but they can rattle that much you think the bearing is going to fall off they can get that loud. You can buy a kit with the clips for a pound or two from Fiat. If the brakes are very dry they can also squeek (if you don't know what I mean ask).

So before doing anything else and going to much more expense Check the bearing is correct and the inner washers shown below are in place (sorry only pic I can find of them)

Get some break pad clips and see how it goes from there.

Hi Contractor!
I think those red doors were the ones that I viewed (Near Wells?)
They needed respraying and tidying up plus they didn't have any innards suchas winders and glass with them.

I T-Cut my Red panda - he looked better but I'm afraid the real answer is a complete re-spray.
Maybe I could have t-cut him even more though......:bang:

Differences in doors:
SOme have the rubbing strip trims - in which case they are pre-drilled and have plastic impossibletogetoff grommits fitted.
Some don't have rubbing strips
some do have the black trim on the outside (around the windows) such as the 1000s and Panda4x4s - later models were just sprayed all one colour.
But any door will fit. Ask if you need any parts - locks, windows etc - I have 3 spare doors but none Red unfortunately....... - you'd have to steal my Mint Red doors off my car and I wouldn't be happy!
All the interior door cards are interchangeable:)

Thanks for all the info and replies.
Yes Alan I,ve got the correct bearing ,even has the same green colour.and I didnt forget the spacer washer .
I shall try the anti rattle clips and see how it goes.
Thanks Graham for the info about the doors, won't bother with those two then.
I'll give the T cut a try, I can get hold of a polisher ,also got to do something about the scruffy wheels and slow punctures and then i'll post some pics.
The family VW people carrier goes in tomorrow for a replacement ABS sensor ,bet I dont get much change from £150.00. God isn't modern motoring expensive ?????

I think my front-left wheel bearing is on the way out, it was making a humming noise as the steering is turned a few degrees to the left. Is there a way of checking this is definitely the bearing and not another part (could it be any other part?) and also would it be best to replace both front bearings to keep things nice and even?

My dad said something about using a wheel bearing puller, but after a look in Alan's guide I can't see where such a tool would be used. Also, what's the going rate for wheel bearings?

Thanks as always. :)

Hi Sam did you check the gearbox oil just in case?

The only other parts that could hum are the Universal Joint and it's unusual for it to go.

I always replace in pairs and you will probably find that the other will go shortly after if not replaced.

You wont need any pullers as the bearing is already fitted in the hub and comes complete so is just bolted in place. you may be lucky with a find on ebay if not they are roughly £50 per side sorry. You will have plenty of time though as they normally wear very slowly.

do check the gear box oil though. i took floyd in to get a new lamda sensor and mentioned that i thought a wheel bearing was going , 2 mins later i looked a real twit when the guy pointed out a lack of gearbox oil -noise gone, only now of course i'm concerned in case its leaking.keeping a check on it.
gina :)

Well I won the bearing off eBay, and I have to say... It's quite a cool peice of kit. I'll probably tackle fitting on the weekend.

Edit: Not sure if it's the right one, mind, it's got the green lip and the description covered my car and several other 2WD Fiats so hopefully it'll be fine.
