I hvae a 1992 Panda 750 with the Fire engine, and I have a problem. The power developed is bad and getting worse. I know its the timing as this has happend before. The points are quite frankly rubbish. Does anyone know of a permanent solution? Electronic kits? something from another panda that would fit?

Please help!

Have you changed the condensor on the Distributor as well as the points?
The condensor can wreck the points if it isn't in good condition. . . . :(

Does the 4x4 have a electronic system? I think thats where I got it from, and it will fit straight on.

Yes the 4x4 is electronic and the dizzy will bolt straight on. If you are trawling scrap yards, try an Uno. The Uno 45 dizzy is the same. Check that the vacuum capsule is ok. They have a tendency to fail. It shouldn't leak if you suck on the pipe. Take off the rotor arm and look under the dust cover. If you can see any metal shavings or metal dust, leave it. The plastic bushes on the advance weights can fail letting the weights rub on the inside of the casing. On my 4x4 it was so bad they had nearly cut the dizzy in half!

I always find the 4x4/uno distributor to be a real pain cause they just fail out of the blue. Juppy's totally went one morning on the way to work without warning.

I'd stick to points...

well my second set of points in less than a year just failed.
where can i get one of these 4X4 panda distributrs?

4x4s are getting rare but Uno 45s use the same distributor (see my previous post)

youre doing something wrong if two sets of points have failed. theres a lot of rubbish talked about points, they are very reliable as long as you set them up right and buy quality makes. My 126 has been on the same set since the mid 1990s!

Any ideas? If the points are that reliable what could cause them to fail?

points will not affect the power. if they close up it will mis-fire and be hard to start. if the gap opens up it will go better but pink like crazy. the timing will make performance bad however if its too far retarded. you say the points are bad but dont actually say why, have you gapped them right, do you lubricate the cam? honestly, theve been around for ever and just dont become rubbish because some people think electronic ignition is the be all and end all of ignition faults.. its not.
