General colorcode Sisley 1987 dark met. green ?

Hi Alan

Yeah collected the '90 from a chap called Dave. He has it for 10 years and she's had a new engine, well new old, the head gasket had blown on it so I've fixed it and waiting to see what happens... We have a spare 30k engine and box (Sisley done 92k) so it might have to be transplanted soon!

The green must be a different shade I guess, maybe the 87 was a 468!

The Torino has not been MOT'd for 3 years, but, I think it's a good 'un to go - although I think my mate is just going to use it on the farm - as well as his grey one!

Anyway, how did you know I went to Cumbria! Is it the Craghill sticker??

Cheers
ElgiN

The engine in yours came from this very car....I know cause I gave him it. It was a cracking engine when I had it, so sorry to hear that the head blew :(

Hi Alan

The mad thing is... It was serviced local and done OK i guess, however the spark nearest the dissy was not fitted correct - it is a pain to tighten as I found out!. That is where the problem was, was not fitted correctly and I guess that it fired to high in the head and the gasket went - whilst been driven for many miles... So keeping it serviced killed it!:bang:

Was the engine OK? Did you change for less mileage?? Yours looks cool!(y)

Long story but I scrapped that green one as a parts car for the blue one I currently have as it was much better overall, and kept the engine as a spare when a mutual friend asked if I knew anywhere he could get an engine as he blew the head on his.

Spark plugs were in perfect he must have replaced them. It was about 16 mths ago.

Hi Alan

Thanks! Do you know what the mileage was? Guess I can then decide how much to spend on bits for it I guess - i.e. 100k = not that much!

Regards
ElgiN

Was just turning 80 I think, I gave someone the spare dash so the milage would be on it if I could remember who's got it  It was running superb engine wise as said but had to look at all other conciderations at the time but wish now I had kept it

Have you managed to rid of the doggy smell?

They're quite rare as NCF only built about 35 of them. Tell your mate to look after it and if he ever wants to part with it I could always make room for it. Rebuilding the one I have is proving very enjoyable (mainly) and I could see myself wanting to do another sometime in the future....

Hi

No problem, although I am sure that the NCF will stay in a barn for the rest of it's life! - that's not as bad as it soundsm it'll be serviced (probably MOT'd) and I guess taken to off road events...

BTW, is there a generic place where all go 4x4ing? I used to go to Ironbridge (Telford) with various machines in the past... Was wondering if members of the forum get together and go 'mud bogging' :) - my Sisley asked me kindly if we could dip our toes :D

Wish there was not been to anything of that type yet
it'll come soon enough Alan... unfortunately it looks like it's going to be after you've had your spray work done...
I'm also itching to mess up a field somewhere...

oh and while i remember... is it ok to use bathroom sealant on the corrogated fuel pipe to seal a tiny hole??? it shouldn't react to petrol should it?... I had to use cable-ties to pull the pipe forward out of the way of the wheel.

Take the pipe off and take it into a warm room and clean the damaged area and a couple of inches either side also have a good quality but thin isulating tape. Let both warm to room temp so they are both plyable. Then very tightly wrap the insulating tape round the corrigated part of the pipe if the tape is thin enough it will mould itself into the dips of the corrigated parts. It should be wrapped at least 2" prior to the hole and 2" after. Make sure there are no ripples or airbubbles under the tape or at the ends so cut with a knife dont just snap the end.

Mine has lasted over a year now with no spillage from the small hole. The new pipe I bought that was scrubbed with the tyre was a write off so put the damaged one back as above and has been perfect ever since and always fill it to the neck at least twice a month.
