Got the doors repaired yesterday, so I now have a totally rust-free Panda :):):)

Just had to share the news ;)

I try my best :I

Because it's a March '92 model, it's part galvanised, so the rear arches are still perfect, and now, the couple of inches of rust on the doors has been cut out and replaced with new metal, so she should stay fine for a few more years yet :)

No Steve.

I waxoyled just about everything, inside door frames, wheel arches, sills etc and only the sills are totally rust free :(

Washing it at least once a week helps, done manually, i.e. a bucket and a sponge with decent quality car shampoo (not washing up liquid as it contains a lot of salt). By washing in this way you can see all parts of the car and what requires sorting out.

I wish I had followed my own advice though. I used car washes as I was too lazy. The quality of the steel on 1989 Pandas is not particularly brilliant so any slight rust quickly becomes serious rot if you don't watch out!

In all fairness Steve C, I bought a duff one I think. Some of you may have heard of Swithland Motors (in the Midlands) whose business practices were suspect to say the least :( Luckily they are no longer trading :)

The paintwork on my wheelarches was flaking off in the first year.

BTW, I bought it from "new", although I was registered as the 2nd owner. It had 52 miles on the clock. The first was "Swithland Vehicle Rentals" - which sounded very ominous and still does :(

Oh to be young again:(

:D

My optimism knows no bounds ;)

But within the last few months she has been treated underneath, the doors and rear arches are free of rust, and are soon to be waxoyled, and the engine is still sounding sweet, so fingers crossed all should be well for the future :)

waxoyl really needs to be redone every 2 years, the internal stuff not the black sticky underseal. However use Dinitrol or a 3M product as they stay sticky longer. A mate did a metro once and ten years on its still rust free, that was with the 3M product.
