hi there,
i finally found a 4x4 gearbox and propshaft. the guy wants £125. is that a good price, its fully functional and he said it works well. they are pretty rare and i do need it, my gearbox sonds like reverse and propshaft rattles like hell.

he probably post here, if you do, sorry mate. just getting a second opinion!

For the price it should be 'spot-on'. I know that they're getting hard to find, but I've not asked over £100 for one yet. (However, I don't have a spare one at the moment ... sorry )

is that rattle a tinkeling noise or more of a contant hammering???... if the second one.. your universal joint needs greasing (cue grease nipple job)... after that it'll shut-up.

As for the price of a gearbox... it's supply and demand... the price will rise as the things get rarer... the youngest 4x4 will be 13years old? (unless it's a lefty)

So it's all down to what it's worth to you right now... really.

its a tinkering noise that increases when you rev the engine. so u reckon it just needs greasing?
i read other posts on propshafts and from what i read just assumed it was broken and i needed a new one.

that doesn't sound like a stiff universal joint ... it'd be constant like a hammer drill.

reckon its deff the gearbox, its crunching into 1st, and 4th and especially 5th sound like reverse. the clutch is also going bad so going to replace that at the same time. its going to be so good having 2 rattles/sounds gone from the car!

well if anyones ineterested i got the gearbox and propshaft. aparently the gearbox is spot on. propshaft looks in good condition too. planning 3 days of car fiddling soon, cant wait to get it all nice and sorted.
