hi,
just got a 4x4 panda, that white one off ebay. its pretty good, but...few issues.
mainly with electrics, most of it doesnt work. is it the same as a 750? because i was thinking of just taking the majority of the electrics from the 750 and putting it in the 4x4.
gear box - its pretty ****, sloppy as hell. are these gear box's really hard to find?
and finally, can any 1litre panda engine fit in the 4x4 versions?

apart from these niggles, for a 99k engine, its pretty ok. think i just need to spend a few weeks pissing around with all the little bits. i think the electrics scare me the most as i dont understand it, which is why i thought transfering the lot because i know it works nicely.
will post more pics when i get my hand on a digital camera.
cheers :)

(yes they're the same as theres no electics in the 4x4 box, only difference is the electronic ignition)

(yup)

(999cc 2 wheel drive versions have a different cam so have 5bhp less but yeah, you can pretty much put in any FIRE engine. I've an 1108cc in the car that I took to america)

(Please do!)

It's not the gearbox that's sloppy, it's the linkages. A new set of bushes (costing very little) will sort that out.

As for your electrics, before you go ripping everything out check all the earths. These are notorious on Pandas and if yours has been used off road a lot they will probably be corroded.

If you do change them all can I have your dashboard light switch? ;)

Hi there

My experience of Panda (well, FIAT) electrics is that more often than not the problem will be an earth or a dirty contact, try unplugging and cleaning you might be pleasantly surprised. Don't forget to check that your fuses are ok too.

thanks for the replies.
ok, with the lectrics, the only thing not working is window wipers, and the indicators are a bit slow, or too fast, so may well be connections i think, since its been serviced every year of its life, prob all ok.
With gearbox, where would i get new bushed, ebay> i will look later. and do you lot reckon it is that? its so sloppy, but does go into gears fine and doesnt pop out. though there is a weird 'whistle' when in 4th and more so in 5th...
default_user, i will not be swapping switches as light work fine, the old 750 is for parts so your more than welcome to have what u like off it unless i've scabbed it already, are you local to manchester. PM me.

lastly it has rust, on doors and arches, and i found some on one sill, doesnt look to good. i have a mig welder, so could do sills maybe? tho it did pass MOT recently so it cant be that bad.
and iwith door rush, whats the best way of dealing with it?

cant think of anything else wrong with it at the moment, a few squeeks as per usual pandanes. the clutch is very high but thats a good sign. i think mainly its just settling into a new car.

cheers for help!

also, the engine is 99k. though got to 90 on flat and it runs very nicely. whats the life expectancy?
which is why i was asking what engines fit. i do plan to change it maybe in a year. which is why i need to keep body work sweet, cos im a bit scared of the rust.

Gear linkage bushes: you'll probably have to get them from FIAT but as I said, they don't cost a lot. If someone doesn't beat me to it I'll post the picture from the ePer manual and the part numbers for you later.

Engine: 999cc FIRE engines are in plentiful supply and they'll all bolt straight in.

Dashboard light switch: I'm not local to Manchester, sorry. But if you have the one out of the 750 I'll pay for you to post it to me.

i will search for bushes. and, the light switch, sure you can have it - may be a bit of time till i get it off. you sent me the engine mount tho didnt you! so definatly mate you can have it.
the electrics are hard! i dont know where the earthing is? can anyone tell me, or shouldi just get a manual.

The earthing points for the electrics are usually mounted on the inner wings, one on each side. They're easy to spot because each one has several black wires connected to it. Disconnect them all, clean/tighten as necessary and reconnect. If that doesn't help then you may have a problem...

Light switch: no hurry. Let me know when you remove it and I'll let you know where to send it.

Here's the picture of the gear linkages:

The parts you need are:

8 - part number 82415465 (about £2 each according to my version of ePer)
3 - part number 4259848 (about 80p each)

Part number 11 will probably be very worn too, on mine it's useless (5945787, approx £7.50)

I'll add a light switch in with the BM lights, still no side light arrived so will prob be after mon.

good point, i thought there was awebsite or something for all fiat parts.
well - im working today but sunday will be my day of working out why things dont work, will have a go at the earthing points, i had found them but didnt know if it was what i thought it was. also behine the engine/dashboard i may have a peek to see if any wires have become loose.
im also thinking that the clutch is a bit crap, im sure it will last, but will need changing at some point.
cheers for all the help.

350, which is i think, too much. because he basically said it had no problems. which is a rather large lie! and when i check over cars i am crap at checking everything works and i just want to buy it cos its a panda 4x4.
but i have it now, and i love it. so thats good!
