Ok, so i want to lose the wobbly gear lever... I am looking at tightening the rear mounting pointing of the geartbox... and making sure that all linkages are well cushioned. so has anyone done this before?... any recommendations or things to look out for?...

I will also need to try and order the rubber bits from the parts people... so if anyone has got the part numbers  that'd be handy.

cheers

This might be of some help.

Post number 10 in that thread.
aye that's good to know.. but i am also a bit of a perfectionist at heart... and if i can get my hands on the the original bush and the gaiter that the levers are sat in then i will be a happy monkey. I'm preparing for the big push... tomorrow the car goes to have the welding done to make it 100% solid underneath, and i will decide whether or not to have the blue bits done. I probably will... but it will require a little bit of faffing.

After that... I will need to fit a new vacuum advance unit... clean the carb and refurbish the little sucker. and fit the new cylinder head onto the engine to replace the current one with a shot thread on cylinder 2.

It's all go at the moment...

I think I have 2 spare ones Tony.
right well i'll order some and keep them as spares until someone has a wobbly gear lever... today was the first day for my Panda under my ownership to actually go on the public roads... but it was only to the front of the house to on street parking to make way for guests parking. I don't really want to take it too far as the vacuum advance is shot (ordered and should be here before wednesday hopefully). taking the spare head to be skimmed tomorrow morning. 7.30am :)

ok, unrelated to gearbox but it is a bushes question

if you don't tighten the bolts on the dampers top and bottom would the lack of pressure of the bushes mean that it would knock when you hit a pothole?...

Why don't you want to tighten the bushes they won't last any longer :p
I thought i had... they started to bend the metal on either side inwards... so i took that as a signal to stop.

although the car has nothing in the back at the moment... just air... the seat is gone the rubber mat is gone... the trim is gone. so it may be just too damn light... but all of that stuff only weighs about 15kg
