Hey all....

Some may remember me from my introduction a few months ago.

The good news is that the Panda is out of storage. I haven't been able to snap any pics just yet but I'll be sure to post some as soon as I can.

In case I hadn't posted the details earlier I've got an 88 Panda L.i.e. It has a 999cc FI engine, is white in colour, and has a beige interior.

The bad news is that now that I've had a closer look I'm starting to find out about all the small bits & pieces that are missing. This is where I'm hoping you guys can come in by finding a place where I could purchase these items at a good price, that will ship to Canada.

I've tried contacting an online site which you all recommended the first time I posted (the name escapes me...) but got no reply at all.

So... here's what I need...

- a set of the gromets that holds the rubber/carpet down underneath the rear seat. I believe I've got 1 left of about 6 or 8. I could probably get some generic ones over here, but I figure if I'm getting a few other items I may as well get the proper gromets as well.

- the drivers site "holy $#!t" handle. Not sure the real name, but that's what we call them. :D Basically the handles just above the door.

- the large oval 'place holder' that fills in the hole right next to the lower bar of the rear seat. One side of the car has it, the other does not.

- oil filters! I went in to change the oil the other day and realised I have no filters. Apparently there is a place in town that can get them for me, but I'm scared of how much they'll cost!

Some other things I think I might need, but am not to sure about.

- rear interior panel for the hatch. Mine is bare right now. Is that the way it's supposed to be? I'd like the interior to be as 'stock' as possible, so I'd like one if that's how the car came equipped.

- thermostat/temp sensor for the radiator fan. Mine doesn't seem to turn on when it should, or for as long as it should. Is it possible to repair/rebuild mine?

- heater matrix. My Panda doesn't emit any heat from the vents. Seeing as how I live in Canada, I'm sure you can see how this is a problem. I've seen posts saying that it's probably the heater matrix..? Again, is it possible to rebuild mine, or do I have to order a whole new one?

tia for your help everyone! (y)

The best bet for alot of the parts is www.ebay.co.uk or try www.shop4parts.co.uk.

oil filters can be bought off ebay (usually £8 plus postage).
the carpet rubber grommits i am sure someone on the forum can help you out with :).
the heater matrix is only about £30 to buy new (https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/heater_matrix_details.php?recordID=52), so there is no point in trying to repair the old one, and the thermostat should only be about £10 (also from www.buypartsby.co.uk)

edit - if you wfind any parts and want someone to send them over, let me know :)

Excellent... thanks for the links Chris, I'll take a peek at them.

How about the interior panel on the rear hatch. Do they come with one? If so, is it an option, or is it a standard feature?

Would someone mind posting a pic of their hatch?

Cold heaters are usually a sign that the engine thermostat isn't working. Take it out and boil it in a pan of water. You should see it moving as it gets hotter. If it isn't that then you probably have a blockage. A problem with the actual matrix would probably manifest itself as a leak inside the car.

Hello JordyO,
'tis a little-known fact that I designed the t-shirts for the BA Road Racing Team during their commonwealth challange in Ottawa ... however:-

1. The grommets that you are after would more easily found on a SEAT site, under 'Marbella'.
2. The driver's side never had a "holy $#!t" handle fitted as it would attract 'dangerous and relaxed driving'.
3. Gosh ! you've bought an old one ! Again, this part is standard on a Marbella.
4. Oil filters ? It's all been said.

Rear hatch panel ? This is a really tricky one. I had an entry-level cheapo Panda with a beautifully quilted, padded, panel. Whereas my top-of-the-range Sisely has a piece of hardboard, sprayed black ! I could send you a template.
These things rot away when the rear washer leaks ... as it always does.

Temp sensor? Always going wrong. Cheap enough.

Heater Matrix ? as above ... and the advice given so far should help. If not; I should have a spare somewhere.

Nice to hear from you ... Keep on Pandering ! :woot:

Remember you fine JordyO :)

Any dealer parts you want let me know and I'll send them & you can paypal or whatever not a problem I offered before.
I've never known of a heater matrix to fail without leaking although it could be the cable from the control to the matrix BUT with the other things going on sounds more like the thermostat.
The temp gauge should sit at 90 deg when warm and sitting in traffic if it doesn't warm properly on setting off & overheats in traffic it'll be the thermostat. If the fan is comming on at all the sender unit sounds ok.

I have no idea what you mean by the oval by the rear seat?

This is what my Sisley hatch is like....

ok the oval shape next to the rearseat is like a black hole... things go in but never come out again... first thing to go in normally seems to be the cover.

Jordy i have a car that is going to be used for parts soon... it has got one left but has got a hole for the speaker cable drilled through the edge. I can send this one over to you as the next owner won't be needing it.

As for the tailgate trim... it's even rarer than the parcel shelf in good condition... which means you will have a very hard time finding one... the good news is that with a little work you can make you own. as it's pretty much the same as the side trim panels. i suggest hardboard and a fabric of your choice.

Jordy,

I'm a member of Fiat and Lancia Unlimted USA and they say they can get me any thing for the panda within 3 days shipped direct from Italy to North America.

You best bet would be to try them as they have a great deal of experience of dealing with unusal cars and parts supply.

Here's a list of some random fiat stuff from Flu....

I'll have my Fiat panda at the Centerpoint Marriott, Detroit, Mi from July 13th to July 17th if you'd like to come along for a look. Would be interesting to meet up with a 'little one' soo far away from home!

OK.... so where do I start? ... :D

Now I'm even more confused as to what the heating/cooling problem could be. See, the radiator fan does turn on, but very intermitantly. For example, I could go for a nice run of 1.5hrs and it won't tun on at all, even though the 'over heat' light will turn on. Then, at other times, I can take it for a quick run to the store for 15 minutes and the fan will turn on just fine when I'm done. :bang: Oh, and there is no temperature guage, only the light to tell you when you're screwed. I guess it was too expensive of an option :D

For the heater matrix... I'll have to do some more investigating. From what you guys are telling me though, this may not be the problem. The weirdest part about the heater is that it will blow hot air for about 10-15 seconds when the car gets up to operating temperature, but after that it's back to just blowing air from the outside.

Just to confirm, there were no holy $#!t handles on the drivers side? Odd, because there are holes for it above the drives side door. I'll take pictures this evening.

For the 'oval by the rear seat' ... hrm, not sure how I could describe it. If you were sitting in the back seat it would be at your thigh/knee level. About 6" long by 2" high. I'll check to see if the cover has fallen inside the hole as Tony suggested. If not, then I may get that piece off of you. We can work out the cost of the part & postage if need be. (y)

Tony is correct though, I wasn't looking for the parcel shelf, but rather the trim piece that actually goes on the hatch door. Seems logical that it would be similar to the interior door cards, so I'll see about making my own and wraping it in fabric. (y)

Jim.... thanks for the link to the FLU! Seems there is even a chapter in my home town!! I'll have to contact the other Fiat Freaks in my town to see what's going on in my neck of the woods! Unfortunately I won't be able to meet up with you in Detroit. The 9hr car ride (each way!) is a bit much. Be careful on your trip though, I've heard Detroit can be a pretty rough city. (y)

Ricambio is the place that I had previously tried to contact. No reply from them at all though. Guess my money is no good to them. :D

There are holes for grab handles on both sides so right hand drive models can have grab handles on the passenger side without the factory having to make special roof structures for each handed version.

My '93 CLX merely has a hole in the inner side of the tailgate - I wasn't even aware there was meant to be a cover on it.

My heater is also useless, unless going flat out on the motorway. This isn't always possible, though, like when me and my boyfriend drove back from skiing at Glenshee. There were too many rwd cars sliding sideways in the snow to go above about 50, so we were sat there with our salopettes, ski jackets and scarves on.

I resolved this by buying a 1973 Saab 96, which is much warmer, although the electric heated seats do feel a bit like you've peed yourself...

No, although I hope soon to be Saab-less. It was a bit of an eBay bargain, and I'm going to try to sell it on for a profit. (and spend some of it on a new thermostat)

Right after that little description I would def guess the themostat the reason being:-

The fan sensor is on the radiator and when driving is always being cooled, however the temp sensor for the gauge is on the block and if the thermostat is not opening enough the block would get hot whilst the radiator stayed relatively cool.

So there is either a blockage in the system or the thermostat is kaput (I don't speak german it just saves me swearing :) ) I would drain & flush the system add a thermostat and fill with a good quality anti-freeze/coolant, if only water has been used whilst the car has been sitting it could be full of little rust particles which caused the blockage.

The heating only being warm for a short period also points to this as the coolant is not being circulated properly so will warm briefly then go cold, if you turn the heating off then back on a few minutes later it will be warm again but only briefly as the coolant is being cooled by the matrix & heating fan acting as a radiator.

When you flush the system make sure that you flush everything including the radiator and flush in both directions if you see a load of rust particles on the ground after doing this THAT WAS THE PROBLEM and has most likely caused the themostat to stick so replace it
OK!

The 'hole-cover' as described is the second pole holder for the rear hammock seat model.
