I've recently had problem with my 4x4 panda stalling, I changed the vaccum advance unit and since then the engine has been almost cutting out occasionally and 'kangarooing' (see my other thread)

I've now found the cause of the problem, the two wires from the LT leads inside the distributor the insulation on them has fallen apart so i guess at some point the wires are touching and shorting out. At the moment it won't start.

Can i get hold of a new one of the part with just these wires on or will I have to replace the distributor ? I've attached a picture of the offending part

Once again thanks for any help

Why not go to a scappys yard and find a car with a similar distributor? We have had this " You have to buy the entire distributor " rubbish from dealers so many times before. If you wish to PM your VIN to me, I will give you the part number of the item you require.
Rgds.

Managed to get the part froma local car spares shop phoned up at 9 part in stock by 11 !! just under £30 FIAT wanted £40 and 2-3 days !!!!

All fitted and running fine again :)

That's the great thing about Pandas, you can actually fix the things.

Whenever I lift the bonnet on my Merc, I look at the engine, shake my head and close it again. Not a hope in hell of doing anything more than checking the oil.

When the cambelt snapped on the old 750 Panda, I just bought a belt from the local motor factors, got out my socket set and fitted it. The car was running again in under 2 hours.

Brilliant..

What's wrong with replacing the section of wire on the old one?

Pair of snips, soldering iron, solder, new wire(s), and insulating or self amalgamating tape and job done...for a few pence.

I don't expect a dealer even knows which end of a soldering iron is hot... ;)

Tried that, but unfortunately the wiring on the sensor is embedded into it and has no insulation on it at all, also the actual wires are very dirty and there was little chance of solder sticking to them. Also tried using tape worked for about 2 miles then had to be towed home !!! New one working a tray :D
