Panda parts long term availability worries.

Seeing as it's been a while since the Panda was last sold in the UK, I was wondering what thw availability of parts in the future will be like, especially body panels, I know that some have been on ebay describes as old stock, and I'm hoping that we'll be able to keep buying what we need at reasonable money without having to scour autojumbles or move on to over complicated Cinq's:)

Cinq? Ha!

I'm currently looking for a Panda. I want to get the best one I can and when I do get it I'll be looking for a MOT failure to break for parts for the good one.

For body panels go to www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk. Front wings for 9.14 each, they have to be worth buying just in case.

Best bet for simplicity, and probably less rust, is '90 to 92' age range:

There were some improvements to the bodywork rustproofing post '90 (allegedly), although they didn't do anything to the doors:(

From '93 on UK specification includes engine management, catalyser and all that (expensive) nonsense.

The idea of getting a failure to break is OK, but the same bits commonly fail on old (neglected) Pandas - door rust is the order of the day, for example.
However, you could still win with sale of parts - if you're lucky enough to find somebody that needs the spares you have.
Hang onto bumpers (and brackets), bonnet, and light clusters as they are commonly needed after a minor shunt.
Also all the electrical bits.

Good luck with the search.

Thanks for that John. I've been looking for a bit now, I've gone to see four, but I want to hold out for the cleanest I can find. It won't be post '92, probably '88 to '92. It's going to be kept as a high days and holidays car, I firmly believe the Panda will be considered a classic in a few years.

They're getting rare over in NI.

Didn't you consider the possibility to receive via-mail the parts you need from a town where they won't ever be missing:D[?]

Steve C: I've got two for sale, both of which are in very good condition. I've also got a load of parts which were taken from a third car that I recently scrapped. I'm also currently trying to buy another which has had one owner from new, so maybe I can help you.

Steve C: Unfortunately I live near London, so I'm not exactly local to you. Do you ever get across to Manchester, perhaps we could meet up there if you're interested in seeing one of the cars?
