Gentlemen,

Does anyone know how to remove (without damage...) the black plastic trim on the side. The pieces I need removed go under the rear wheel arches, it's going rusty:( and needs a little TLC, impossible with them in place.

Thanks a lot

Chris

Do you mean the plastic arch guards?

HOLD ON. Is this a 4x4 with the 4x4 badge on the trim moulding?

Yes, I guess I mean the bump strips, it's not the guards underneath, they're held on with self tappers I think. Yes it's a 4 x 4 with the red logo moulded into the plastic.

Do you mean just push hard and it slides backwards?

Thanks to all

Chris

NO, HOLD IT. There is a proceedure for removing the trims without damage.
Is the 4X4 badge on top of the trim or sunk into it?

The badge is sunk into the trim with it's surface flush with the black surface of the trim.

Ok. you have to prise the 4x4 badge off and there is a self tapper behind it. You also have to remove the inside side panel as there is more 8mm nuts that have to be removed from the inside to get it off.
Well it was on Juppy.

The 4X4 badge should be carefully removed, though as these are original trims, it is unlikely that the badge will come out without being damaged. Under the badge is the main stud that locks the trims in place. Remove this by punching out the centre pin, then using a wood screw to extract the stud.

On the curve of the wheel arch, there are two smaller studs which will need to be removed by punching out their center pins and extracting. There is a third small stud, hidden at the very bottom of the downward leg of the trim.

When these have been removed, the trim can be tapped carefully to the rear and removed. Reverse order to refit.

NOTE. the trim on the door comes of forward not back.

Take care of those rear trims, they are originals and no longer available. New trims are available, but they are not recessed for the badge. If used, the badge sit on the top surface of the trim.

Rgds.

Doesn't seem like they wanted it to fall off does it!

Thanks a lot for all that info, will go very carefully and keep fingers crossed nothing cracks, though I guess 20 year old plastic gets a bit brittle... Do you know if the 4 x 4 badge is still available if I do crack it?

Thanks again,

Chris
