I found this on another forum but it is quite appropriate that i re-post it here.

It's a pump that is supposed to be the best partner for the weber carbs, but more importantly points out at the end of the article about some pumps being completely useless for the application. I was just wondering if the pump Jim had fitted was of this variety.

link one...
and the same product but cheaper same... here.

if anyone knows of a place selling these in the UK... give a shout.

This results in the float bowl going low or empty under hard acceleration and causes cornering problems.

Yup, got that problem....

This cause flooding at idle

And that one....

overloads the pump causing alot of noise and premature failure

Sounds familer.....

So I've bought 4 pumps, all rubbish and the regulator I've just got is rubbish too.... Oops!

Well, yeah... why do you think i posted it up here... I thought you'd be happy to know why it was dying at high revs...

Well, they were more problems I had while setting up the regulator. It's ok 90% of the time but very light throttles are a bit jerky and I'm getting carb iceing in the mornings (Like it's feckin April!!! ) and the web page that tony's post was about suggests that the regulator will put a strain on the pump that will lead to it's failure...

I was worried about that then something else went bang this morning so it's all pretty unimportant now:(

What went Bang

That sounds bad... cars don't normally go bang even when provoked.

Sorry to hear that your epic tales continue on their own volation...

Another new fuel pump and some new wiring and she'll be as good as new.:D

I think this is fuel pump No5 now which should be a record for 9mths of panda ownership! lol

(much more cheery now we know what the problem was, and that it's fixable)

Jim

I'm going to stick to electric for the time being as the engine is sweet and I don't want to cause more problems trying to fix the ones we've got.

But who ever's idea it was to wire the pump to the live side of the coil and not fit a relay or a fuse needs shot.... :bang:

We're just lucky we caught it in time before there was a big bang:eek:

you going to try and find someone who send you one of those constant pressure ones? or go for another pulsing motor?

you fried the fuel pump?... you going to attach the live to the same place as last time but fit a relay this time?

There's a guy called Trev that builds rally cars locally and Jaunty has brought him in to have a look at the mess. We're now going for a rally pump that's adjustable from 4 - 7 psi to which Trev is setting it to 4psi (which is the same as that web site suggested @4psi for a webber carb so he seems to know what he's doing) They'll also fit a relay from the ignition to give the pump power with as the coil set up was causing the coil to heat up.

We're hoping that it will be sorted by tomorrow and we're going on a shake down to Cork/Kerry at the weekend.

Jim

Hopefully my fiat ends up looking better than Jaunty's one that he's restoring at the min.....

3mths in and this is as far as he's got!
