General Sump plug torque wrench setting

Eh eh...I well know it's impossible to do it,but this is an advice given by a Fiat mechanic...I'd like to see him at work:D!BTW I wouldn't worry about the 2 or 3 second while the oil lamp stays on after an oil change, there remains a film of lubricant between the metals which is enough to avoid damages.

Just a quick question.

Servicing the car earlier (gave her Castrol GTX Magnatec 15W40, Fram oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, and NGK spark plugs) and we realised that there's no mention in the green Haynes book about the correct torque wrench setting for the sump plug.

Does anybody know [?]

I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me please :)

haynes manual for punto 55 sx states torque of 10 Nm for sump drain plug,hope that helps:)
 
I bought a fiat manual on line for a seicento. Mine is an 1108 and the plug is a 22mm taper with a 12mm hex socket drive. The torque for the sump plug is 50Nm. The plug I bought had thread sealant already on it. I only discovered the torque setting after I fitted it but reckon I did it about right, and it's noticeable that there is a bit more to be had when hot each time I try - progressively less each time though. Going to torque it today.

Holy thread resurrection 12 years....:D

In all my years working on cars I 've never used a torque wrench to tighten up a sump plug. To me it's instinct, you just know when it's tight enough, & obviously not slack. I know of many others who use the instinct rule...:)

Just to add, change the plug washer when it looks past its best. You can buy several at a time from the bay for little money, handy to have.

There isn't a washer. The plug is a tapered design, and if excessively over-tightened, could crack the sump. [:0]

working on these in the 80s at fiat main dealer these were just nipped up.
You will really have to go some to wind that plug in to as you say crack the sump which would not ever happen on these in any case.
just use common sense.... if your unsure dont do i
