Hello. I need to replace the two cv joints towards the front of the propshaft because they rattle and the boots are worn.

I'm looking in the 4x4 instruction manual posted on here and it looks like they use a shop press to fit them to the shaft. But the bearings I've bought are splined.

Does anyone know if I need a press to fit the new ones? I don't have the energy to remove everything for nothing cause it's cold outside.

All the best.

Albert

The cv joints on the front are not pressed in, no. You can remove just the front piece from the car like this (MARK THE PROPSHAFT! Don't want to put it out of balance, always put it on the right way back on)

Remove the circlips, remove the joints

Change the boots, new joints, lots of grease, do up all the clips... just remember your mark on the propshaft needs to still be intact so don't just do it on the joint!

I used new bolts but you don't have to...

Bolt it all the correct way up and you're golden

Oh and btw, I bought the cv kit from ricambio, but the gaiters were not the right ones and in each kit there were twelve bolts. Anyone know why that might be since each end of the shaft only requires six bolts? ?

Have you got a link to what you bought from them? If they've sent out the wrong bits then you can contact them to have it sorted :)

The joint itself looks right... the gaiter looks like it could fit over but the standard ones and my replacements have the small inset rubber gaiter, and also no idea why there are 12 bolts as that's one side as you say so only need 6... possibly worth asking them I think, let us know how you get on! I tried to look for what I bought before but it's so long ago it has all since disappeared - although I need to do it again soon on another 4x4 prop I have!

My thoughts exactly. I held up the gaiter next to the original ones still mounted on the car and the actuall rubber bit is too long so even fully compressed it wouldn't fit over the small part of the axle. Anyhow, I fould the proper ones on ebay and they arrived yesterday so all good now. Might do the work tomorrow.

I think I'll send them an email just to see what they say about it.
