I am getting so close to returning my panda to the road, had him about a year now. First mot in 10 years and failed on rear brakes, hand brake, headlight aim and emissions.

Now the brakes are my fault had new all round and needed another bleed and the handbrake cable adjusting as mentioned in other posts, all sorted now. Headlight aim is also corrected.

But the emissions is more elusive. I had a go at a new lambda sensor and took it for mot this morning. The garage tested the emissions first and it was 'way out'. Only charged me for the emissions test though, which was nice.

No print out from today's test but previous fail was:

CO max 0.30% actual 1.98%
HC max 200ppm actual 214ppm
Lambda min 0.970 actual 0.955

Read on here about disconnecting the air temp sensor then trying again.

Idles and runs fine. New plugs, leads, filters fitted and oil changed. Doesn't seem to be losing any coolant. Fuel tank has been emptied and it has premium unleaded in.

It's a 1994 colour 999cc SPI.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions about what to try. Desperate to get him on the road.

Thanks.

Been exactly this issue on my old car come up on the Facebook group recently. Basically 92-95 cars that fail the standard emissions test should be re-tested to model specific limits listed on the DVSA system. If there is no exact match on this database then non - cat test limits apply which should be an easy pass. Worth querying with the test station if they have found an exact match on their system to test to.

Hi Firstcar, thank you for your reply. What a great document, just what I needed. I had read another thread where this was mentioned but had assumed it did not apply to me. If I understand it correctly then there are 'no requirements' for my car!! Super. I'll be down to the garage soon to discuss and book a new test.
