General clx to 4x4 gearbox transplant..

So just call me gearbox destroying jaff ;p
The gearbox in my new 4x4 leads much to be desired so quick question.. will the mint one in my clx fit? I know the ratio won't be 'officially' correct but meh... I took one look at the 4x4 box with a huge rear drive shaft sticking out of it ran off in terror

How the heck will that fit onto my clx box? lol
I never changed a gearbox before but as i have my old clx to experiment on first so i'm ready to give it a go

Clx box to 4x4... You've got 2 hopes and one is 'Bob'

Would be ok if you forget about the 4x4 system and dump the prop shaft and fit a Marbella rear Axel but that's a lot of work to make the car inferior

If they are both from Fire engines then yes it will probably fit But will be 2wd, what about seeing if the gubbings of the clx box will recon the FWD part of the 4x4 box? OR you could remove the front driveshafts seal the drive boots and have a RWD panda.

I thought that all FIRE engines were compatible with all gearboxes from FIRE engined cars. Surely there would be some way of fitting it, although the ratios would be all wrong if you were going off road.

Only as a 2wd box as the transfer box from the 4wd box for rear wheel drive can't bolt onto the 2wd box

damn.. I guess I'll have to try and hunt down a 4x4 box then :/ I doubt I'd be able to refurb a box without help. Its got some life left in it yet.. i'll keep my eye out. Thanks for the suggestions folks!

There are a few bits you can replace, most problems are down to worn bearings BUT unless you know what you are doing and it's all ligned up perfectly it could be a lot of money badly spent.
