I just bought a complete engine out of a Punto 75. It came complete with ECU, wiring harness, code box, key and aerial, and a big box of other wiring and bits and pieces I'll have to sort through.

The engine is going into my '87 Panda 1000. Will I run into any issues swapping the carbed Panda engine for the fuel injected Punto block? It looks like I've got all the bits to make it work - minus the new fuel pump, which will be on its way shortly. Just want to make sure I don't run into any nasty surprises mid-swap!

The engine came without exhaust header. I could reuse the Panda header, but I've also found a 16v header for cheap - is there any benefit of using that instead?
 
the engine will drop in no problem. i have done it with my panda 4x4. just note that you will have to adapt some pipes for the heater matrix, also note that (in the uk) the throttle body is heated via 2 smaller coolant pipes tapped into the heater matrix feed dont think its needed in warmer places.
the wiring is as simple as colour matching..
red is a battery live.
orange is a ignition switch live.
if the old car was a carburetor fuel system you will need to get a low flow but high pressure (around 4 bar) in line fuel pump. i had an issue with the fuel lines being too narrow and blowing the return pipe off the top of the fuel tank, which is why i say try to go for a low flow, but high pressure pump. the fuel rail auto regulated the pressure anyway bleeding excess back to the tank via the return line.

if it was originally fuel injected, just swap the original in tank fuel pump out with a punto 60, 75 or one from a 16v FIRE engine just to get the right pressures. though the engine will run ok on fuel pressure under 1 bar, it may suffer when at high RPM.

you will need to add 2cm extra of exhaust pipe into the down pipe.. or make a 2cm spacer and put it in between the manifold and down pipe.

for how easy it is with the engine out of the car, i would also replace oil seals like the crank shaft and cam shaft ones.

Thanks for the info! It's a carb model, so it needs a little extra work. Does it need to be an inline pump? I figured I could use an in-tank pump off a Punto. They are 3 bar rated, not sure abiut the flow rate.
 
ahh yes you have the plastic tank accessible from inside the car.. hmm well i bet you could get away with replacing the whole sender unit from a fuel injected panda.. then just swap out the panda pump for the punto pump to get the right pressure. also the pandas with plastic fuel tanks have larger fuel lines than the 4x4 pandas with metal tanks :D
 
You will need to swap the complete tank from a fuel injected car I believe as the top of the tank is different to accommodate the different sender units. Worth doing in my opinion as it gives a much better job and inline pumps have a habit of being very noisy.

I would also recommend completely replacing the original fuel lines with new nylon pipes and push in barb fittings, the original pipes are not designed for anything more than a few PSI.

All MK2 Pandas use a 8mm feed and a 6mm return including 4x4s. A Punto uses two 8mm pipes.
 
Can anyone tell me how I can find my exact car in the ePer system?

It's a 1987 model with the carb'd 999cc engine. LHD, and 2-wheel drive.

ePer give me the following options:
LV 141 Panda 4x2 RL / 86 (1985-1991)
2P 141 Panda DS (1986-1993)

What's the difference between these two?
