Hi Can anyone tell me how easy it is to repair worn out gear linkages
as mine is like stirring porrige. I have a 1000 cl for spares which
seems ok so hope just to swop bits on to my 4x4 ?
Also does anyone else have problems accessing this web site as i only
seem to be able to log on once in a blue moon which is very frustrating
as everyone is very helpful and friendly and especially when waiting
for replies
Thanks Brian

I'd say you're probably in the best position to let everyone else know, as you have access to both sets of parts :)

My gut feeling is that there will be differences, as ISTR the 4x4 transmission was done exclusively by Steyr-Puch (spelling?).
However, I can't say for sure as I haven't worked on a 4x4.

If you ask again there are one or two people here who have access to the parts CD. So if you quote both VIN numbers, or PM them to your volunteer of information if you don't want to publish them, they may be able to say if specific parts are common.

On the 2wd there are a lot of linkages, levers, and rods, with many joints which may provide some of the "porridge".
Then you can progress to the selector mechanism[:0]

My view would be look for excessive movement in any of these places, and see what can be done about them - but the problem is while the individual bits of play might be quite small, because of the number of them working together their total effect may be large.

Regarding access to this site - it did go through a couple of lumpy spells a few moths ago, but IME it's been OK since.

Sorry for not replying sooner I have been waiting 3 weeks for computer repairs
Thanks for your replies. I have crawled about and had a good look at both the 4x4 and the cl and all the gearshift linkages look identical so I am going to have a go at swapping them, however I am not allowed back out into the garage until i finish the list of stuff to do in the house, I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks
Brian

Could you post or send informations about the leverings under the car?I ask this because my car's cloche has some cm of play in the forward-backward sense, which affects the gear changes (I suppose:))!
