Technical Propshaft CV joint separating

A quick question for you 4x4 experts. I'm in the process of replacing the 2 CV joints at the front of the propshaft but the rear one won't separate. Hopefully the attached pic will explain. Any ideas how to separate them? I've tried a gear puller but there's not enough purchase on the inner lip. Thanks, Chris.

A few taps to the side of the CV joint should be enough to free the two parts. Which the shaft fully assembled you can add some tension by pulling the front section away as you hit.

I have taken apart quite a few and have never needed to resort to any sort of puller or press to remove the CV joints. Also I hope you have marked all the components in relation to each other otherwise you will need to have it rebalanced when it is reassembled.

Thanks for the reply, the rest has come apart perfectly but this part is putting up a fight, I'll grab a bigger hammer then....

Yes it's all marked for balance.

i had the same issue.. thankfully i have a good vice with wide opening jaws so i grabbed the CV joint in that then used a blunt chisel to knock the rubber cap bit off.

Cheers for the reply, I'll give that a try, it's certainly not budging with a 'few taps'.

Dragon Man, your chisel suggestion worked a treat, fully rebuilt, new CV's and rebuilt UJ's and a lick of paint, thanks for your help folks.
