Morning All,

Can anyone help with the following problem ? Panda 4x4 Mk 1, Sisley I think it is in England, Val d'Isere over here. When I select 4x4, pull the lever, the whole car shudders and jumps. Like clutch kangarooing !! Then it's very difficult to get the lever back down, out of 4x4. The car has less than 80 000ks, it's in very good nick and it's possible, probable, knowing a bit of the history of it, that it's never been used in 4x4. Can't be much wrong with it, as the system is so simple. ( I have another one of them ) But I need to sort it. I'm gonna start with the oil levels, but wondered if anyone else had come across this ?

Couple of other things while I'm on; it seems be drawing in air between the carb' and the manifold. After the carb'. It won't tick over properly and runs better with a bit of choke. So it's obviously running weak. Again, if anyone has any ideas. Finally, we get a bit of oil in the coolant !! Not the other way around, fortunately ! and no leaks. Must be coming from the oil way from the block, that comes up through the headgasket at the front, 1/2 way along the block and leaking into the water jacket. Resigned to having the head off at some stage. Any advice gratefully received. The French skim the heads every time, but it shouldn't really need that should it ? Just a thorough clean up and a new gasket, I'd have thought.

Thanks in advance
Cheers

Are you driving on a hard surface 4x4 should only be in on loose or slippery or soft surface it sound like you have wind up of the prop shafts and drive shaft as there is no third diff (balance of drive power front to back )

Many thanks for all that, Kolza and SJVarley; i'll go and get some axle stands, deffo. The carburation, is, I'm sure, an air leak at the joint between the carb' and the manifold. But I'll check the vacuum advance any way.

Cheers

If it drives fine in 2wd all the drive shafts are turning without vibrating or causing an issue it’
Should be fine on the Axel stands
Unless you have a burst rubber Centre bearing , the jumppness is more likely to be the wind is it hard to steer too !!
