General Yorkshire Dales 4x4 Weekend - 1st & 2nd July

1 week to go, and (perhaps not unusually) things are behind schedule...

So, I need to back one horse here:

The Panda needs: doors rebuilding (window mech, trim etc), arch liners, mudflaps, bumper(s), master cylinder replacing and brake pipes modifying, perhaps an ignition switch..

The Y10 needs: throttle body, fuel filter, rustproofing, and (perhaps significantly) 4x4 fixing. So it's in the air for some experiments with vacuum pipes and servos. Got some very useful but scarily complicated info from Italy to work through..

Votes? Advice?

Wheel lockers
Forget all that
fancy stuff use some brake cables and a small hand brake to actuate the springs to return it's on the Italian site but can't just find it now.
Rust proofing should be ok as it's not salty unless heading for the
East coast beaches summers here and the water will dry up fast

Panda brakes first then move on to Y10. - Optimism may favour you and the Lancia will be fine but if not Nonnina will be fit to step in.(y)

- Kangoo Trekka..?

The Kangoo may be looming..

Due to some family stuff time is in short supply this week. Had a couple of hours today so ignored all advice and played with the shiny complicated things (Y10 system). It's fascinating and infuriating in equal measure. At one point (by manually overriding) it had 4x4 but it then sucked itself back.
Immediate impression is that there may not be quite enough suction to fully activiate either the transfer box gizmo (which seems to stop short of its full travel) or the rear axle thingammies. If more time pops up will have another go and look for possible leak on pipe 3. It is VERY clever, and only slightly broken.

I do like Steve's idea of reverting to manual operation, but not giving up on the Italian eletrici yet...

Maybe it's the backwaffell valve thingy what u may call it interface
Compromise !!!! Ha

Well guys it looks like the idea to have a Yorkshire meet in summer has made no difference - it's looking like it's gonna be another wet one I'm afraid. Fingers crossed the river will stay in it's banks this time.

I'll be checking the trails Friday night but if it does remain wet then we'll be having a re-jig of the first lanes on the Saturday. Don't worry though, there's still plenty to do!

I think we have a few people coming who haven't been to one of these before, apologies if I'm teaching anyone to suck eggs but I would highly recommend getting some waterproofing spray and spraying your spark plug leads, distributor cap, and anything else electrical that might get mardy when it gets wet. I spent a significant part of one of these trips being towed behind Freddy's Land Rover due to water in the spark plug holes stopping several cylinders from working properly - learn from my mistakes! :)

As someone who has only touched the rough stuff a couple of times, let alone ever gone to one of these, I'm going to thank you for this :p Though I was wondering if anyone has some spare they could bring with them (that I could pay them for the use of) or if anyone knows of anyone that will post some super fast as we are leaving early Friday which only leaves me tomorrow to potentially find some? I'll see if there's any shops I can buy some from locally in the meantime but just in case... cheers! :)

All you need is some WD40, I'll bring the straws!

I *think* they had some at the garage in Masham last time, but I have some in the boot of my car anyway that you're welcome to sample. It's this: Holts AQ9R 300ml Damp Start: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Whether I get my car back in time is more of a sticking point right now though... :(

I can't believe it..! I heard a slight knocking sound from my front wheel - an inspection has revealed black grease coming out of the ball joints on the bottom of the suspension pillars connected to the suspension arm (on both sides). I only installed new pillars 2 months ago. I am still a learning mechanic but I guess this is "game over" for this weekend..! Any thoughts would be welcome. All packed and ready to go. Gutted.
