Hi folks, grabbed myself a 1986 4x4, lot of work already done - it came with £750 of welding receipts (sills), anyway its got the usual bottom of door rot and wheel arch issue, but i'm used to series land rovers so its not a worry.

Anyway it came with front bull bars fitted, but rear bull bars in the boot :) I'm at a loss as to how they fit and if they do how the boot will open!

Advice welcomed and if there is already a thread on this please accept my apologies.

Very best wishes
Simon

hey there,

hmm with the rear bars you have 2 outer ones that are fixed to the car, and the centre bar moved freely.

the 2 outer bars bolt via 2 bolts to where the bumper mounts bolt to.

with the centre section you lift/slide the bar upwards and pull it forwards from the top, then the whole thing hinges downwards to allow the boot to open. its only really designed for looks rather that actual use.

i dont have one with the bumper off sadly but hope this picture will help you out...

i need to get that bar cleaned up and stuck on Talon :D

Dragon man that's very useful indeed thanks very much.

Looking at the bull bar it looks the same as yours - open closer inspection it looks like a might have to do a little welding repair on one side so it unhooks but stays in place when laid flat.

Whilst your on any advice as to where to procure the side detailing? offside plastic is all damaged.

The front plastic strip that runs just under the front windscreen, underneath the air vents has bizarrely rotted - I know I'm confused too.

Cheers pal

Sorry its taken me so long to reply, wife decided to have a baby boy :)

Also on ebay from Partsworld(y)

Thanks Palio and and Panda1408 - I actually ordered that part it appears to be the metal underneath - it certainly was not like for like so I ended up sending it back and swapping for a rear windscreen wiper! it is defo a plastic fitting which goes over the top - will have another look now to make sure its not a new part. Cheers Si

I've got some of the vinyl from the door surrounds that @It's broken again kindly gave me, if it's the same stuff?

Thanks for the reply P1NKY im going to take the vents off and have a closer look - will post more photos later. Cheers Si

Missed this the other day, that panel is 100% metal, no plastic panel apart from the vents at either end. The windscreen will need to be removed to see the full extent of the rust. New panel will need to be welded in.

Yes definitely metal - that's why it rusts. The "paint" on the top has a plasticky look, but the panel is metal. The one you sent back is the right one!

its strange on pandas. some rust around the windscreen, and some do not.
Talon, my green panda 4x4 sisley had rust around the windscreen with only 42k on the clock
however Fallout (with 126k) and BEX in the picture of the rear bull bar above (with 153k) had no rust around the windscreen.

not that bad of a job to fix mind, you can get to both sides AND are able to rust proof both sides from outside, inside and underneath!

taking the windscreen out is pretty easy too. see this video of mine:

Yes your all correct dammit :bang:

went out yesterday morning and did some scratching about! actually watched dragon mans video on repairing the window edging, but thanks for the new link. Many thanks to liquid knight for your offer, but I did have a little credit left with partsworld so reordered the window scuttle!

As an off shoot to this do we know if anyone has attempted this:

should help to cover up my poor welding skills :)

All the best folks
