Learnt a lesson today, a valuable one.

I had written off my 965cc engen due to poor running and a lack of compression.

I checked another car I knew to be fine with this tester (with another adapter) with this compresion checker and I got results I expected.
The tester is a kit that comes with hoses connected via a quick adapter)

I figged the engine was toast and the running issues were likely related.
So, I bought a doner Cinq for its engine

In the mean time a kind forum member had leant me a known good carb, and a timing column for the panda.

Today I went to look at swapping the engien over and thought it wise to check the cinq engien. After doing a compression check again (same kit) I saw dismal numbers. Which I found odd as it was running great!

So a order later I bought a known branded tester and checked the Cinq and got great numbers. I then re-tested the panda quite a few times and got consistant :

Quite a difference. I have refitted the known good carb and have started to tweek the timing and she is running like a goodun.

So, be careful where your diagnostic path takes you. The rabbet hole is deep.

This reminds me the funny story with my friends 128 coupe . He bought 128 coupe 1100 ,car in good condition but the engine was lacking the push , The obvious diagnose was lack of 4to2to1 ex manifold and double barrel weber 32 DMTR, and presence of 128 sedan 32 single ICEV and downpipe under the hood, besides that friend had fresh 1300 from my regata in his garage, we decided to do a quick swap. It took about 30 minutes to undo all accesories, radiator, starter etc, only to find out the 4 extra head bolts and nice 138A2000.... engine number. OK, we have ritmo 1500 here:) lets swap all the good bits from 1300 sport and ellectronc ignition from the regata 1300 engine shall we? After another 30 mnutes of assemblng all back we did a first, very delightfull test drive. Car was about 3 times faster than before(y)
