Yes, I was refering to using them for moving cars rather than recovery.

The rear wheels of the car on the dolly will also need to be braked for it to be totally legit, and you would be best off fitting some proper trailer hubs and an overrun hitch as I think you would struggle to get decent braking force from a caliper with a cable.

What a muppet! It was the best laugh I've had for a while, but wincing at the same time expecting someone to get their head caved in!

I suppose you've got to give him credit for getting the thing back on - didn't expect that. A blinding case of don't try this at home though - how on earth an axle stand wobbling on a trolley jack, under the wheel of a 2 ton heap of junk teetering 4ft in the air didn't collapse is beyond me........

I just found them all being under the thing and stepping over the bar really stupid. In fact from start to finish it was a lesson in how to do it all completely wrong.

You do know that's the bloke you're paying to transport the Sisley to you, don't you?

It could be worse, JamieK hired some rejects from the film The Wrong Turn - they were really scary looking and managed to eat at least one of the hubcaps!!

In all fairness it only took this guy one (long drawn out) try :ROFLMAO:

(Suitable for the recovery of small to larger sized cars for occasional to trade use

Build the “A” Frame up wearing gloves and place in front of vehicle to be recovered then push under car on place on top of wishbone then wrap chain around the wishbone and connect to strap tightened the Ratchet straps, set the cross bar up , tighten all the bolts and hooked up to tow hitch

Turn steering in both directions checking that tires do not touch “A” Frame adjust if required

If Aframe touches front of car it may be lowered by lowering tow hitch with lowering plate

The vehicle which is being recovered must be in neutral, steering lock and hand brake off trailer board lights and number plate fitted.)

ive seen similar to these twist like butter so not a fan
im thinking of getting a 1952 austin van cutting the back out and nailing a harvey frost in,problem is these dastardly front bumpers made of plastic, wonder if i could superglue something to them so i could do a suspended tow:confused:;)

Talk of suspended tow and plastic reminded me of a time we had to suspend tow a Reliant Regal. (Car version of the Trotters van in Only Fools & Horses)
Needed a lot of padding, but was successful.
Difficult to trailer them unless you fill the trailer in with plywood.

I thought the regal was the van version(like from only fools and horses) and the Robin was the car?

Regal was the predecessor to the Robin and was made in both saloon and van versions, though most of those remaining are vans.

Here's a randomly picked example of a Regal saloon (in a nice tasteful shade of hearing aid beige).

They were popular in the day as winter transport for bikers as you could drive them on a full motorcycle licence. A very old biker friend bought a Van version cheaply & became a self-taught car driver, subsequently passing a driving test first time in a borrowed 1100 without ever having had a lesson.

At least they had good taste, the only one they ate was the genuine Sisley one (y) I've got to say though that although they were about 6 hours late they did at least get it done on the DAY they said they would and were still in good spirits even though they had a 5 hour drive home  maybe they'd been sippin on mama's moonshine all day long though
