General Door internals

I have a weird problem with the drivers door on my 1986 Panda. Every now and then the door won't lock on the key. As I have changed the key barrel I can only conclude that some of the internal connecting rods are not sitting/working correctly but with limited access and big hands I am having difficulty tracking it down. Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

What I could do with is the internal workings of the door lock mechanism (I have a brand new catch to fit). It always locks on the plunger.

Has anyone got all the internal rods available from a scrap door that I could obtain?

There are only two rods in the door, a long steel one from the inner door handle to the latch, and a short plastic one from the outer lock to the latch. If everything works sometimes they are probably ok.
The latch has all the other components on it so it's worth removing this and making sure that nothing is broken and moves freely.
If you need another latch I've probably got one you can have.

What does the internal lock button operate on? as this always works
I have bought a brand new latch (from partsworld) which arrived yesterday so I will fit that and see what happens do I need to dismantle all the bits to change it or can it be done from the outside?

Ah yes, the internal lock button, make that three rods. It also operates on the latch so you should be sorted with a new one.

You will need to take the door trim off, don't lose the clip for the window winder, it has a habit of flying away out of sight. You can attach it to the winder handle before re-fitting then just push the handle into place.

With the door trim out of the way you can detach the three rods from inside the door, then unbolt the latch assy. Again, be careful not to drop the plastic clips that hold the steel rods into the bottom of the door, they are almost impossible to get back.

You can attach it to the winder handle before re-fitting then just push the handle into place.

Also if you do drop the plastic clip tape a ball of duck tape with the sticky side out on to a pea cane and use that to go fishing. Make sure you tape the stick ball of duck tape on securely other wise you will have a stuck ball of duck tape to retrieve too.

... Not that I have ever lost the plastic rod... no....

Personally it doesn't bother me but every day I get ear ache from my daughter who doesn't want to climb across from the passenger seat (its getting more frequent). If fixing the latch gives me some peace and quiet then Po's character will go

It will get some roof mouldings and a n/s door pocket as well (I sort of splurged at parts world)
