I'm always keen to try new products (or as in this case very old established products).
Through a chance comment by Allen Fletcher, while I was on the phone to him, I've been trying Aqua-Steel.
As stated it is a rust converter primer. It is used on ships, loves rust, it is relatively cheap and you can use it on wet metal. Can it get any better.
In fact this stuff loves rust so much that I am amazed that it didn't come as standard with a new Fiat Panda. The two are made for one another.

So these aren't all Panda wheels, but you will get the gist that I have been pickling (electrolisis) wheels for the last couple of weeks and now I am at the primer stage.

You'll see that the wheels look black. This is a chemical reaction caused by the Aqua-Steel. It reacts with the rust and oxygen in the metaland converts it err........ to black stuff that you can paint over after 24 hours.
They claim that any paint covering will last at least three times longer; and other stuff but you can google it yourself; I'm not on commision.

So far I am really pleased. It's quite thick (about single cream) so I brushed it on. It doesn't seem to dry into lumps or leave brush marks.
I'll top coat tomorrow and report back(y)

look good so far...
we need pics when finished
thanks

Confirmed that it's used at sea. Wonderful Cadet job...get handed some piece of rigging equipment and told to wire brush it and Aqua-Steel it. (Then get told to wire brush it again and re-apply it "because it looks rubbish" - the smarter Cadets disappear until after smoko and present the untouched equipment only to be told that's much better)
